I hope I am not breaking any forum policies but I rec'd an e-mail this a.m. and thought I'd share this project with you:

https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/north-american-precision-gemcutters-we-re-not-dead-yet

Jason Brim, Roger Dery and others have this project to get more rough for training cutters.

more Trained Precision Cutters means more quality stones for us!

I apologize if I've broken any rules but I do think this community should be interested in knowing about such projects.
even if one doesn't want to support w/$ I do think it is good to know how vendors we know and trust are working to help local economies in other nations.

and more re Roger's involvement with Nambia: http://www.spectralgems.net/about/rogers-story/

take a look: you'll see some cutters associated with this project that are greatly loved here in this forum........

eta: this is PSA only; I have no financial involvement although I do plan to make a donation.

thanks for posting this!

thanks!

Thanks, that project looks neat!

Great info, MZ. Thanks for putting it up.

Roger's last trip to East Africa? What's up? Do I have to cry?

-- Laurie

Really appreciate you calling attention to this (doubt I would have heard about it otherwise) -- thanks!

Btw -- I heard from Roger that this, from the website, is a misstatement:

This will be one of Roger's last trips to East Africa, and it's time to pass on his knowledge.

After this trip, Roger won't be taking more gem cutters or new people to the business on foreign trips, but he will continue his own business as always; he isn't disappearing into the sunset as that implies.

Relief to hear it & thanks for letting us know, Roger.

--- Laurie

I applaud their taking the time and effort to help others out in the gem cutting business. :appl:

So happy to hear that it was misleading info on their Indigogo site about Roger! I was going to contact Roger today because it was concerning to read that, so I'm very relieved that Roger will continue to be Roger, to go on trips finding rough and cutting his beauties.
