Sometimes i see large diamonds but they are still ugly yet with a smaller one they can be so clear like glass. i wonder whats really to you ?

Cut is most important to me--then size...then color. A well cut stone trumps all, but if talking apples to apples cut wise--then size over color.

A good quality cut is very important to bring out the beauty of a diamond regardless of size. So that is my top priority, then size, colour and clarity.

Between the two, I would choose color... But overall I think cut, then clarity, then color, then size. A well cut low color stone can look very white!

In order of importance to me: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Size.

Cut, (Clarity, Color), Size

Cut, then color and then size - at least for me.

Cut, size, color, clarity

It''s cut, color, size, clarity for me.

aside from a great cut, the color and clarity are equally important (to me), then size.

cut,color then clarity. VS2-SI1 G-H color.

Depends upon budget. Last Dec. I had a defined amount to spend on a pendant and wanted one around .4-.5 and within my budget I was able to get an E VS2 diamond that was an expert selection from WF and went for that. Before I looked at color and clarity, I considered cost.

If my budget was more flexible, it would be: cut, color, clarity, size, and then cost. I prefer modest diamonds around F - G, VS1-SI1 and up to .80. The E stone I got ended up being a bit too icy for me however, I would still pick another E in a smaller size than an I in a larger size.

Cut, size, color, clarity
ditto - I guess colour and clarity could even be equal third. As long as its eye-clean and not overly tinted, its ok with me

I think I''m in a minority, but I really like size first. I''d take a great big J or K any day! There''s something about a stone that weighs the band down to the side that I really like.

For example, here''s a 2.13 carat, M color from Singlestone that I would take in a heartbeat over a colorless, ideal cut, 1 carat round brilliant - http://www.singlestone.com/images/catalog/zoom/NLR071121.jpg

Cut, color, clarity, size.

Definitely Size vs. Color, but CUT is most important! I think my answer has echoed most responders to this thread! A woman loves diamonds, but she loves diamonds that sparkle!!!!

I will add a cavet to mine. If I was considering a smaller diamond .. say 0.2 ct .. then I will go for size.

They are all important to me, I have min on each one

cut - no compromise, the best - that is most important

color - The next important - but I don''t think I could go down past H

clarity - must be eyeclean at all angles, my ideal with be VS. Maybe a clean SI1

size - willing to sacrifice the most - but to a point, it depends on the jewelry (my earrings are 0.67 tcw and I am happy with that, for a ring I would like a 0.8 to 1.3).

I always balance the last 3 C''s to get what I want, but it is a balancing act.

for me,

Cut
Cost
Carat
Color
Clarity

For the e-ring I had a budget. I knew that I didn''t want to go below an H, VS2 (an excellent cut was obvious), and I knew I wanted something in 2.50ct- 2.75ct.
But that size was only because it was in the budget. Had it been less, I still wouldn''t have budged on the color and clarity, and would of happily purchased something smaller.
Size came third when comparing to color and clarity.

It''s a personal preference and it''s not like someones going know the color or see an inclusion (in a good SI), just by casually looking at your ring. But for me, it was a what people here call a "mind clean" stone and that was most important to me.

For earrings, pendants or right hand rings, I would, and have gone down to a "K".

Cut, color (I'm very color sensitive), clarity (I've got the whole mind clean thing going on and am not comfy lower than VS), then size.

I know I'm probably not in the majority, but I'd rather have an icy white mind clean stone over a monster rock with warm tones any day.

D-E, VS1-2 is my preference.

It all depends on what one is trying to do. What does "colour" mean? J or S? And "size"? 0.25 or 4.01?

For me priorities change depending on what the stone should be used for and the alternatives available to reach "that look"...

CUT, SIZE, color, clarity = my winning combo

I guess if I had the money to choose it would have to be:

cut
clarity
color
size

You know, this is kind of funny. When I started my career in diamonds, it was for a company specializing in small melee-size diamonds. The average size of our production was 0.02 Cts, and I then found a 0.25Ct-stone a rather big stone.

In those days, if I saw a diamond bigger than 2Cts, I was most often disappointed, since these stones generally looked dull to me.

Learning more about the trade, I gradually specialized in cut-quality and how to achieve the very best, and in this process, I realized that all these bigger stones that I used to find dull, actually were cut to lower cut-standards. In those days, hardly anyone knew about H&A yet, or ideal proportion-sets, let alone the inverse pavilion-crown-relationship. And in fancy shapes, cut-quality was synonimous to the outline of the shape, not in any way relating to how the stone returned light.

Your opening remark just reminded me of how I used to dislike bigger diamonds decades ago. All that has changed, of course, but I do remember the feeling.

Live long,

Assuming the diamond is ideal cut, I prefer H or higher color in the largest size within budget. My target is usually G-H color, but if I had unlimited money, I''d bump up to D-F color. I wouldn''t go below H just to get a larger stone, because the stone I have is the maximum size I''d want to wear.

Color...I don''t like the winter white look of new ideal cut stones I would rather have a smaller stone. That said I am very pale and that may play into it. Oh! And I adore warmer older stones like OMC or OEC...I''ve a friend with an M colored stone and its amazing as she wiggles her fingers! LOVE IT!

PS Color vs weight is very personal, there is no right or wrong it is all about the comfort level of each individual.

Prior to finding PS my preferences were: Size, amount of sparkles (what I know now to be clarity) and then cost.

when i first joined PS it changed to: Color, Clarity, Size.

Now after lurking for 2 months or so - cut, color, clarity, size.

I''m really wondering if my new center stone is cut all that well - It is IGI Certified as being very good but we did purchase it at a tv network. The center stone is an E vs2 .47 carat. The rounds in my setting are G-H''s si1s.

don''t mean to be thread jacking...

I''m cut, size, color, clarity.
