Hey I was wondering, I have this sterling silver ring that is flat on top and has my initial on it and I wanted to give it to my girlfriend for and engagement ring, how ever it doesn’t have a diamond on it so I was just curious if you could dip or coat a ring u already have. For instance, my sterling silver ring in white gold and place a diamond on it? If so would it cost more to do that or just to buy a ring? If some one could help me out with this that would be great.

Can't do it from where I stand

, but if there is a jeweler around the corner he could! Surely the ring could be plated ( = covered in gold, is that what you mean?) and a small diamond burnished into the surface of the ring whereever the thickness of the metal permits.

It would not be too expensive to just have another, gold ring made with your (of both of your) initials engraved and a little diamond set in it either.

The model your description reminds me of would be a signet ring. (like these ? LINK or THESE ? ) They are not a common ladies' model, but I consider the shape very elegant. One thing about them: it may not be possible to size one down all that much (more than, say, 3 sizes) without deforming the ring - but this is just another thing for you to ask the jeweler (= "can you size it down to..." whatever the ring size of your friend seems to be).

Btw, I think your idea is quite lovely
