I found this diamond for a little less than $11,000. It gets great scores on the HCA, but it has a large cloud on the left quarter. would this affect light output in a VS2? should I steer clear?

The GIA graders gave it VS2 so I expect it's not a dense cloud and all is well. Since it is the grade setter I'd want to examine it before buying it for myself, even though I suspect it's safe. An independent appraiser or other trusted expert can eyeball it and give you a decisive answer.

Shouldn''t be an issue in VS2 but check with the vendor.

Have you seen it in person? Or is it an internet purchase?

Also....

You obviously have a decent budget. Are there reasons you have picked a VS2?
If you could see yourself with an SI1, and maybe even a G, you could either go bigger
or save money.

I'm going to guess that you haven't seen the diamond yet Hezz or you wouldn't be asking whether the cloud might affect the visual performance? Most "clouds" are rather translucent and unlikely to affect visual performance in a VS-2 clarity diamond, but it would be a good idea to ask the vendor to provide you with a few clarity photographs showing the cloud (and other inclusions) within the diamond at various levels of magnification, perhaps 10x (standard for diamond grading); 20x and 40x just so you can see the formation of the cloud (it can be difficult to ascertain on a computer monitor at 10x). A cloud is simply a collection of tiny pinpoint size diamond crystals grouped together in close proximity, tiny diamonds trapped within the larger diamond crystal as it formed, usually no big deal.

Off topic: it's good to see you on the forum Sherry
