Hi everyone,
I'm sure this topic has been covered somewhere but I'm wanting to know how you clean your diamond rings? Do any of you use white vinegar?
I have just used the dish soap and soft brush and rinsed with equal parts vinegar/ water.
Is there something better I could be doing for an at home clean??
:read: :wavey:

I use dawn dish washing soap and very hot water with a soft toothbrush.

Vinegar can harm gold. Just soak in ammonia + dish washing at night and rinse in the morning.

Ammonia can also harm gold - don't ever soak in ammonia longer than a minute or two unless it is platinum. For my gold pieces I use dishwashing soap + hot water and let them sit until the water is warm, scrub, and rinse. For things with diamonds, I clean them in the ultrasonic cleaner with the gemoro concentrate solution and water.

Ammonia can harm gold? What's your source? Never had an issue for over 20 years.

Oh, that's interesting!
I've never noticed a problem, perhaps because I've only worn 18ct gold.

That could be it - it's also, I gather, the same sort of reason why you're not supposed to wear your rings in heavily-chlorinated water like pools and hot tubs, so not everyone will ever experience a problem but it might happen, after many years.

I boil water in a mug in the microwave and then run the diamond under water that is going from warm to hot and then I drop the ring into the mug of super hot water with dawn/ammonia.

Comes out brilliant.

blue dawn soft brush and hot water.
If the ring needs a deep clean almost any reputable jeweler will do it for you.
