I''ve heard a lot of people mention a "clean table" when describing an SI1 or SI2 stone they are purchasing. What does this mean? I''ve looked at an SI1 with one crystal and "a scattering of pinpoints under the table". The stone was graded by AGS. Is "a scattering of pinpoints under the table" a bad thing? Should I only buy an SI1 with a "clean table"?

Sounds good to me... "pinpoint" is not something I would expect to see, so the one questionable inclusion is the crystal.

As far as my 0.2 worth goes... it is not very straightforward to tell whether any spot on the table area on the inclusions plot is to be avoided - that is a bad thig only if th einclusion is close to the table insrtead of deep inside the diamond. In the first case it would show, in the second remains hidden with some chance to be reflected around if bad luck strykes. Some labs (EGL, as far as I know) would comment if inclusions do get reflected around. GIA does not. No inclusion plot shows a side wiew so that one can guess where exactly is theinclusion placed.

So? The stone you describe has good chances to be eye clean and avoiding any mark on the table on the inclusion plot does not help much
