HELP!! I''m so confused right now! I just picked my engagement ring up from the " Galleria" and decided to go check out jewelry at the Jewelry plaza here in Michigan. While in the store I found a setting I''m in love with and it so much better than mine! It has 1.0 carat weight diamonds and is different than any other vintage setting I''ve seen. Anyways, I asked about stones and he bought out EGL cert stones from color E - I and clarity SI3 - I1 I know there''s more things ike sym/polish, cut, etc but for me it''a about the color and location of the inclusion and that there''s no black carbon in the stone. I found a stone I liked The specs are 1.01, E, I1, I know that means inclusion viewable by the naked eye. I''m ok with that, he''s saving my finace 1,000 dollars and I''ll be getting 2.01 t weight versus my Galleria ring that''s 1.49. Here''s my question to you diamond experts on the board, why is it that the stone I have now, G, I1, 1.07 is priced higher (used PS diamond search) than the stone I found that''s an E, I1 1.01 when this one is colorless. The cert from Galleria is IGI and the cert for other stone is EGL. So is it the clarity not the color that makes the price of the stone? Still confusing cause they both are I1 clarity stones...
PLEASE ADVISE

First of all, you have to account for the fact that those labs are not as respected as GIA or AGS. So there is no telling what the true color and clarity of those stones are. I think you are concentrating on the color and weight as opposed to the factor that is most important in the beauty of a stone, and that is cut. You are likely not getting a good deal or a good stone if buying from any mall chain store. Do some homework by reading the knowledge section of this site, and you can probably choose a much better diamond.

I agree with diamondseeker. Cut is the most important factor in the beauty of a diamond.

Ok. Thanks so much, of course neither has provided me information on the cut of the stone. Does EGL cert''s even include the cut of the stone? I know my IGI cert does not. Thanks again

If you will stick with GIA or AGS, you will get reliable information on your stone. Stick with GIA Excellent cut or AGS0 (ideal) cut.

If you want to tell us what your budget is, we can show you examples of ideal cut stones with similar color and clarity that you were looking for. There are some girls on here with SI2 and even I1 hearts and arrows stones that are very beautiful because of the cut.

OMG! Diamondseeker, thanks so much we paid a little under 4,000 for the stone alone. We want to stay around 5,000. I''m off to check out the stones you sent. ;) Thanks again

You''re very welcome! Infinity diamonds are VERY top quality cuts. They just occasionally have some specials because of the lower clarity. Wink, the owner of Winfield''s, is also a really nice guy and runs an honest business. He has a real jewelry store, too.
