I tried doing a few searches here on PS, but did not find much detail with regards to blanket policies (if anyone can direct me to any threads I missed it would be appreciated :twirl: ). Is anyone here familiar with this type of Chubb policy? I recently contacted an agent to get a quote to add some items to my policy and was offered a blanket policy so that I would not have to submit an appraisal, etc.

Does anyone have this type of policy? I was told that no appraisal or documentation was required to be submitted, which seems unusual.

Also, for all of you Fancy Colored Diamond owners/collectors (hope you see this and respond Kenny), do you have specific stones or all of your collection insured? And, do any of you have a good FCD Appraiser that you would recommend (excluding an obvious choice in Stephen Hofer)?

I have a jewelry policy with Chubb, but I am uncertain about the policy you are speaking of. I'd be curious as to the details of such a policy.

Why would anyone insure their blanket?

Mine is not a blanket policy but I do have Chubb. I don't know how blanket works, though I don't suspect they write a lot of those.

I've heard of a blanket liability policy, but that has nothing to do with loss of jewelry!

I'm going to have to inquire to an agent to get more specifics, but in trying to search for more information regarding a Chubb Blanket Policy there is a one liner in the PDF document link on page 5, and blurb about Chubb's "Collectify" software on page 6.

I also read somewhere else that Chubb used to offer only blanket policies for up to $10000.00 maximum per item, however it's been increased in recent years. I'm curious to understand how I would be covered with regards to jewelry if there is a loss and no documentation about the item is required prior to obtaining the policy. I assume should you make a claim that the burden would fall on you to prove what the item was worth - i.e. a copy of the original receipt, an appraisal, and other documentation, etc.

we have chubb and my ring is insured as a stand alone item. we submitted the receipt and the appraisal but only insured for the purchase amount. we then have a blanket policy where everything else is covered unitemized but for no more than 10,000 for a single item

Do you have a homeowners policy with them or just the jewelry and valuable items coverage? I have some jewelry and sterling flatware that is not covered and it adds up to so much to put it on the policy with my ring. I might check into the blanket policy if it doesn't require a homeowners policy.

The agent I spoke with tried to get me to switch my homeowner's and auto policy over to them, however I was offered the blanket policy without having homeowner's with them. I think that whether you are offered that might depend on the agent since they prefer to bundle policies and try to get more business from you, but it never hurts to ask a few agents. They are now offering blanket policies with a limit of up to $50,000.00 per item.
