They are everywhere. Each house is decorated. Except for our.

My husband hates wasting energy and water. Not only in our house - everywhere. If I leave water running in a hotel, he is immediately there. Takes conservation of water very seriously. Same for energy. He is on International Panel for Climate Control, so I think it is subconsious.

And I agree. I am just thinking that all resources are soon coming to an end, so we have to stop being wasteful. My friends say, well, this energy has already been produced, so there is no difference whether you use it or not. I think energy production depends on demand, and energy companies can regulate it. Anyhow, everything is ablaze during X-mas season and I think it is wasteful. So I started with myself and take my kid to the park of X-mas lights since it is there anyhow. I think he wants to have our house decorated, but I just can not bring myself up to doing it.

It is sad for your son who probably doesn't really understand but you are teaching him a lesson for the future.

I groaned when I read your friends reply- that the energy is already produced I wonder how some people keep themselves alive when they think such dumb things...

I completely agree with you on a conservational, light pollution and economical level.

Plus if somebody wants to go to the effort to put up (or keep up all year round - you know who you are) festive lights which they cannot see from inside the house then I'll look and be festive. But don't expect me to waste my hard earned cash reciprocating.

I'm like your hubby, always looking for ways to consume less and absolutely not worried what they neighbors think.

The reason I put up lights is for my SO.
He LOVES holidays, and relationships are about compromise.
He wins on this one; I win on others.

Personally, I'd rather put a tree in the front window decorated with huge VISA cards, as a statement.

I love decorating for Christmas, but I am not fond of excess lights everywhere. As people have mentioned, it seems wasteful to me and light polution is a problem as well. I prefer using decorations (wreaths, balls, etc) even outside.
