hi folks,

sorry if this is the wrong forum but it seems to attract the most traffic.

i''m looking for my ring now and was offered a couple of options, one of which was a christian baur.

my jeweler warned me that because it was a name brand it would be pricier and some others.

my question is if there was any real advantage to getting a genuine christian baur vs. one that "looked similar"? ie. are the known for exceptional workmanship, etc.

just wondering if the cost justifies the actual ring.

your input is appreciated.

thanks!

How much is the premium? And, how much more do you like the CB ring? It's up to you in the end.

I think with each designer you chose over any generic, it depends on what the amount for that premium is and what your budget is, and how much it's worth to YOU.

We are faced with branding issues every day. I'll eat generic Mac and Cheese, but NEVER drink generic OJ (Tropicana only!) So it's worth $2.00 extra for the OJ, but not $.50 for Mac & Cheese.

Tiffany's, Cartier, Christian Bauer, Blue Nile, Tacori, Vatche all have their premium. I don't know what a Cristian Bauer will command over a generically similar ring, but the question is, what is YOUR budget, and is it worth it to YOU? Compare. Find a similar ring and compare.

We ended up getting a branded stone (radiant Cut Radiant) becuase THAT was worth it to us, but we didn't get a TIffany's ring, because THAT wasn't worth it to us. Just compare them in your hands, physically, and get prices, and the decision is yours to make alone... Good luck!

i believe i was quoted a difference of about $200. if i remember correctly it was $1800 for the CB vs. another brand that had a "similar" design.

i know it's up to me in the end, but are actual CB's any better in any way, ie. good workmanship, good servicing, etc.? my jeweler said the biggest thing was more brand recognition than anything else. some people just gotta have that CB name on the ring!

i was just wondering if anyone out there knew if there was any other reason to look at the CB.

thanks again.

The premium isn't that much...what is the other brand? Care to share a style number or photo?

For once, I am a fan of CB. Beside the fact that they seem to guess my dreams in terms of style, I like the precise execution of their jewelry - almost as good as those precission mecahnical components they make
