Hi everyone, I purchased this for my wife. It really pops in good light and is unique. She loves it as well; vintage pieces are her favorite. But what are your thoughts on pricing for it? I hate paying too much, as does she, and I have no idea what Chopard commands on the resale market. She has several vintage Cartier pieces. She won’t get too attached to any one piece and will trade and upgrade over time, hence the question.

It’s 115g total weight, 18 Karat with the happy diamonds centerpiece. IMG_4911.jpeg

I could be wrong, however, Chopard is not a 'premium' brand for resale, in that I am not aware of Chopard jewellery pieces being featured in auction listings for significant jewellery for the likes of Christies.

However, they could have been featured in their lesser online auctions that I do not follow.

No help with pricing, sorry!

It is a lovely piece, thanks for sharing.

DK :))

Its beautiful but I agree with DK, i dont know it's similar to Cartier or VCA or Tiffany in terms of brand recognition. I have seen many pieces like this, non branded, that are curb links with a diamond accent of some sort and they seems to be popular. I personally would buy it for gold value more than the name if I was worried about overpaying (like i would see what scrap was worth or similar pieces sell for), but if you love it, you love it and who cares! You are never overpaying if you really love it!

There's a similar one on first dibs (which tends to be a little expensive as you can make offers on it) for $19,500

Thanks-I hadn't seen that one but you're right; it's a good comp as the weight is similar. My wife wore it yesterday and a woman came by to compliment her on it. "Happy Diamonds-I love Chopard!". She had a pair of the HD earrings.

She loves it, so I think we'll be keeping it. Probably selling a couple of her less worn pieces either here or with a reseller we work with. My wife also has an eye on a very interesting Happy Sport watch as a dressier option to her Rolex DateJust rose gold 2-tone. Even though it's a "sport" model it has a much dressier vibe due to the floating diamonds and leather band. Either that or a gold Cartier Panthere, but those seem to be a dime a dozen where we live. There were 3 ladies wearing them in our pew on Sunday.

I can’t speak to the brand value but everyone seems to be betting on gold continuing to climb in value in the long term so from that perspective at least there is a nice bit of assurance/investment there.

I know nothing about pricing, but its a lovely piece! Would love to see some of your wife's other vintage pieces if you're up for
posting!

Thats so funny, i JUST sold my Rolex DJ 2 tone rose because it's soooo dressy and flashy and i feel like it's way too much with my leggings LOL!

You should look at a Rolex GMT II in two-tone. That's my wife's daily watch (when not wearing an iWatch). Sportier and she gets compliments all the time.

As far as being too dressy: you'd be suprised how high-end jewelry can look totally right with leggings. In the nicest parts of Dallas, I've seen ladies in activewear rocking a million plus in jewels. That's just their everyday jewelry, thrown on before leaving the house.

Good point.

It's slightly OT but relevant: I just saw a 165g Cartier choker listed for $19k somewhere. For 750, baseline values are 75% (since 18K) of gold, and 75% of that (meltdown plus margin). That's probably low for larger pieces, but even at 75% and 80%, at $4200/oz, that is $14,700, giving nothing of value for a Cartier signed piece, which should command a decent to large markup. A couple years back I bought her the Cartier "Trinity" choker (as worn by Vanessa Redgrave in the first Mission Impossible, although the movie prototype was a smaller version than the production one from 1998 that I got for my wife). It's almost 150g and was selling for 30% less than a 5-row Panthere choker of similar weight. She likes both styles, so she decided to go with with the Trinity choker and I got her a 3-row Panthere Maillion bracelet w/pave diamonds with part of the $ we saved. It's such a cool vintage piece. I'll post pics of her wearing it.

The largest jewelry raw materials to markup prices I see are Bvlgari and Van Cleef, FWIW, on the second-hand market. Chopard and Cartier are roughly equivalent on larger vintage pieces, with Tiffany and David Yurman being another tier down.

@dumbo it sounds like you’re an experienced and knowledgeable vintage signed pieces hunter!!

Your wife is very lucky, and like everyone else I’d love to see photos of her with these awesome pieces :kiss2:

Thank you! I try....plus it's a lot more bang for the buck! Older pieces can be really fun-a different time period for sure! My wife, for example, loves this stack: it's Donovan's (the bad guy from Indiana Jones-The Last Crusade) wife. She's also a sucker for well-kept vintage furs.
