Hi everyone!

I need wedding band help! My FI is a grad student and works with lasers, and despite the best safety precautions fingers sometimes get singed. He''d like to wear his ring to work, so he needs a band material that reflects those nasty incident strays as poorly as possible (certainly brushed metal).

Between

plat.
palladium
titanium?
tungsten?

which metal would be best? Something else altogether? The lasers he works with are red and green, if colours affect the choice.

Also, what should we look for in the shape of the band - does concave vs. convex vs. flat make a difference?

Thanks!

What do other people wear?
In the laser lab I was in they banned all jewelery.
Certainly diamond rings where banned.

No bans on anything, up to the wearer to draw that line.

Of course, if you''re wearing diamonds and you''re burnt, you wouldn''t be getting much sympathy...

Most of the men wear plain polished bands, actually, which I can''t say I think safe.

I work with laser. If he is working with regular lasers that will burn eyes but won''t burn flesh, any plain band with a convex profile will work. Polish won''t be a problem, as long as his hand is not right next to his eyes. Reflection from a convex surface will diverge. Only a small portion of the reflection will get to his eyes. The safety rule I learned is things with flat reflective surfaces like watches are not allows, but rings are OK because they usually are not mirror flat.

There are lasers that will burn fingers in no time. If he is working with those lasers, I suggest taking of all jewelry at work.

Thank you for that info! You covered all my questions.
