Hey guys,

I want to get my girlfriend of three years a 3 stone diamond ring. we're in college, so neither of us are ready to get married. this is more of just a gift since her birthday is coming up.

college is expensive, so i don't have a ton of money. I just want to get something cheap with a little shine to it. I want to spend less than 1,000 dollars, and I want to get round diamonds, not princess cut.

I've looked at all of these:

http://www.myjewelrybox.com/?section=item&itemID=8012
http://www.jewelrycentral.com/product.asp?pID=4826&cID=7
http://www.amazon.com/White-Three-Stone-Round-Diamond/dp/B001JKYVQ4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293918648&sr=8-1

I also found some really cheap ones on pompeii3.com

they actually seem nice, but the price confuses me:

What do you guys think? Any better ideas?

let me know! and thanks!

edit: I'm also open to other styles of rings. i just kind of like the idea of the 3 stone.

Hi Chicago :wavey:

We tend to shy away from most chain mall stores (Zales, Kays, Reed) because the quality of their stones are usually pretty
poor. The mall store lighting makes them look really nice but when you get them out of the store they just dont have the
same sparkle.

Here are a few that are in your budget ($1k)...

Is this basically a promise ring? Just wanted to mention that 3 stones ring are used a lot for engagment rings these
days so I'm not quite sure how you would say that this isnt an engagment ring...its just a ring because I love you.

Lets just say that 20+ years ago my younger brother ended up engaged to his GF when he picked out a diamond ring
for her for Xmas. He didnt tell us till after the fact that he hadnt intended it to be a proposal but when she saw it she
assumed he was asking her...and she said "Yes".

If you are worried about this at all, a diamond pendant would be a lovely gift.

Yes, I suppose this is basically a promise ring. I'm not too worried about her thinking I'm proposing. We've talked and she knows that's not happening until after we graduate.

I agree on the confusion a 3 stone diamond ring can bring if you don't intend to propose just yet. I know you've talked about it, but taking a browse through the Ladies in Waiting forum here may give you an idea on the mindset of a woman who is awaiting a proposal. Sometimes a conversation about it NOT happening soon can be interpreted as you trying to throw her off the trail. Just a friendly warning.

Perhaps what you could do is buy a nice eternity or stacking band that your GF may someday be able to use as a wedding band?

i guess that makes sense. I still am not too concerned, but I'm starting to kind of like the idea of a diamond eternity band.

thanks guys!

edit: i didnt mention this in my original post, but i also want to get a date engraved on the inside of the ring. is this possible? is it possible with an eternity band?

I'm sure Yekutiel (at ID Jewelry) could make any of those eternity bands a 3/4 eternity so that you have 1) room to size the ring, and 2) a place to engrave a date.

I 100% agree with what she said. ;))

I also like the idea of a little stacking band or pendant. For now. And I think that you're very sweet looking for something shiny for your GF. Good man. :))

Best of luck to you and please come back and let us know what you've decided. A lot of us here on Pricescope are hopeless romantics and love to hear about such sweet exchanges amongst young lovers. Well, I do anyways. ;))

Cachette :))
