I have a choice of two GIA graded 0.77ct, F, VVS1 Emerald Cut stones and cannot decide between them. I would be grateful if anybody could offer me some guidance. Thanks in advance.

The have only a 'GIA Diamond Dossier' and so there is no inclusion plots but here are the details:

I don't think the inclusion plots are important here given that both stones are of such high clarity. However, it's impossible to tell which one is the better stone without seeing both of them - at the very least, in magnified photographs (ideally also with video and ASET). Can the vendor(s) send you some?

Took the words out of my mouth.

Mike - have you seen pictures?

Unfortunately, I haven't seen any pictures of videos.

I have the smaller of the two stones (the one with internal graining) mounted in a ring as they jeweller set the wrong stone. They have now sourced the other stone to replace it. I doubt it there will be any discernible difference between the two stones and unfortunately I have to return the ring to have the stone replaced.

I will just have to do an 'eye check' from memory and if necessary request the original stone.

It seems that nobody here has no strong opinions base on the info that I can give them so I guess I'll just have to see.

That might be best. If I had to choose one sight unseen (which I would hate to do) it would be option 1.

You really need pictures ans set images to determine actual cut quality- light return, etc.

Use your eyes and examine both in various lighting scenarios.

Have decided that I will travel from Germany to London in order to vie the two stones side by side. Would anybody like to give me some tips for evaluation?

Here's a pic of stone 2 but I'm not sure it's of any use. Didn't realise how difficult it was to take a pic of a diamond with a compact camera,

Gosh, that is a long way to travel - are you just going to view them side by side?

Do you have a picture which is less zoomed? The cut looks fine to me - nothing glaring except whatever that is on the left side of your picture, I imagine a VVS would not be so included so is that dirt?

Edit: Disclaimer: Mike, I'm a RB girl so not an expert in EC's.

Having problems shipping the ring back with insurance and everybody here is saying don't buy an EC without seeing it first. So thinking a one day trip to set the two stones side by side and possibly swap the stones would be best.

Yes, the stone is quite dirty as I seen when looking at it through a microscope. Didn't want to mess around cleaning it though as it has to go back.

Here's a less zoomed pic.

Thanks for your comments.
