Do you think the painting on the right needs more colors? More colors of flowers or is this a "don't mess with it"? I know it's not great but I'm torn... everyone thinks it needs a couple more colors to brighten it up but I'm afraid it's going to get worse.

ETA - lol forgot to attach it :P

You are so talented! :sun:

I like it just as it is, actually - it is lovely and mellow and has an -ethereal- quality that I think a more dramatic combination of colours couldn't match ::)

I think it's lovely the way it is! I think you could add more shades of the same colors you've already got, but leaving the tonal family you're using already might make it too busy, IMO.

You are very talented and i love your paintings :appl: I think that you could use a lighter and brighter tone of the same color that you have already used, in order to add just some very tiny and discreet highlights on the parts of the flowers which are supposedly more exposed to the imaginairy light source of the painting. That would give it a little more depth and a very vivid finish without putting your painting at risk! I'm facing similar problems with my paintings too and i understand exactly how you feel! I've spent half of the Sunday looking at my latest painting and wondering if it needs more color and where and being scared that if i mess with it i'll totally ruin it, lol !!!

I hope MissyDebby drops by to give her opinion of expertise on this issue! :)

Thank you :) I am not really talented though, I'm taking a class (the pic on the left is the teachers but I wanted different colors - I've done this type of flower a few times and wanted to deviate) She used 4 colors and I used 2 thinking that I could add 2 more later... she did a red, orange, peach colors... This one was a particular color and the same color plus white. I was going to mix this color with this orange color (so it's not orange but just.... not as purple) and add some white to it for color #4. But while I don't *love* it the way it is, I'm afraid I'll make it worse... you know how you do something and... well you know lol

ETA - just a funny aside, the class is all in chinese - the teacher doesn't know any english at all. It's funny how we communicate lol I learned how to say "a little" from her class lol

:appl: If you have managed to survive in a class that everybody speaks only chinese and painted such a beautiful painting, you deserve a tremendous applause :appl: :appl: :appl:

I think it could use a little more oomph, perhaps by looking at a color wheel and finding a complimentary color (somewhere probably in the greens). I would try as little as possible or you may crowd the painting. They are both lovely though:)

Wow. Those are beautiful. You've got great talent.

I think you should leave the one on the right alone. The enemy of good is better.....

I learned how to say "again" in spanish after a couple days with my long-time dance instructor. When she repeats something and makes you do the same thing over again 50 times a class - Otra vez! - you learn it, hah.

And I think it looks absolutely gorgeous. The teacher went for a totally different look, and I actually prefer yours. It's very mellow and relaxing, not busy.

LOL I was hoping there was a consensous but you guys are all over the board too :P I think I'll leave this one alone but make another one and take more time and have more colors... I'm afraid the other colors will look like an afterthought or squeezed in because I didn't specifically make room for them the way I did the first two colors. I want to do it now but I really shouldn't prior to thanksgiving lol

I really like it the way it is! As you said, more colours and flowers may make it look like an after thought.

You are very talented and i love cherry blossoms!

Leave it!!!!!!

I think it looks beautiful as it is.

I was gonna say this. It's nice as is. Please make the next one to a challenger to my future daughter decorated xmas tree (i.e., crazy colors and garish!)
