So I was in line to buy my diet coke the other day and there was a youngish father paying for his gas and their sodas next to me with his 5-ish year old son. Son freaked out that his dad just spent $65 on gas and a couple fountain soda, and his dad said "yea! It's expensive to haul your butt around!" The kid snapped back "your butt is WAY bigger than mine, maybe that's why it costs so much!" Some kid farther back in line yelled out "burn!" The father did not find it near as funny as the audience. But the whole place erupted. That little guy was so proud of himself!

I thought I posted this the other day but evidently not.

That's awesome!!

HI:

Case in point, not to buy more soda!

You do have funny stories Ame.

I think a lot of it is just that I remember the hilarious crap I see and repeat them for others. This one had me laughing. My husband found it a riot as well.

Funny but I would have gotten a smack for being so cheeky if I was that kid! :errrr:

Love it!! That kid is incredibly sharp-witted... I'd love to be a fly on the wall in his teen years!!

   Too funny!

I guess I am just an old fuddy duddy, but I never would have dreamed of talking to my dad like that. I'd like to think he took his father's comment literally and made his own logical deduction. That would impress me a lot more than a smart aleck comment made to his parent in public.

I agree. If he said it because he thought if his small body was expensive to lug around then surely his grown father would be far more costly, then that's cute. If he said it to be a sarcastic smart aleck kid, then IMO, not cute.

True, but, then again, my father would never have spoken to me that way. He isn't exactly modelling polite behavior himself. The kid's answer is just in line with the father's attitude.

This is not to say that the father can't joke around with his kid, but his remark rubbed me the wrong way.

I hate the word "butt" especially spoken by or to kids.

Kids are a riot. Mine have had a few recently. The one I still crack up about? My ds came up to me the other day with a very important query. "Mom, what is a rabbi? Some kind of hobo?"

I'm not gonna lie. It took me a while to recover.

I don't understand why people are having such an issue with this interaction. It was funny and cute. It wasn't intended to be disrespectful. It was an observation the child made and responded with. Jeez. Enough reading into what the father was doing or the son was doing.

the joys of the internet. lol.

Everyone should watch "Here comes honey boo boo"....you'll think any child is in angel in comparison to honey boo boo.

You have the advantage of having been there, so you know a bit about the tone of the conversation, how spontaneous it was, etc. We're just reacting to words typed on a screen, so we can - and probably will - read other experiences into it. That's just life. :wink2:

Absolutely!! One of my biggest pet peeves! And it seems to be on the "OK" list for people to use in general conversation, making my kids wonder why I chastize them if they use it. Have to explain (for the millionth time) that different families have different rules and that in our family, using words like that (butt, fart, stupid) are NOT OK. They are 5 and 7 now, so I still have a decent amount of influence over them, but I know that's going to change as they get older. I can only hope that by then, they agree with me that there are certain words/topics of conversation/tones of voice that aren't ok to use, period.

I do agree with VRBeauty that tone may have played a role in how I would have perceived this exchange....

I had to google to find out what that was. My head has since exploded all over my office.

Oh.My.Goodness. My kids ARE angels compared to Honey Boo Boo. That's just awful (IMO)!!!

LOL. Kids are very frank. I remember my youth pastor saying during sermon that he realized he finally needed to be active in losing weight because a little kid called him the fat man.

My nephew calls me aunt blobbie. And that still can't make it happen for me

hahahaha, right?! 8)

I've never heard of Honey Boo Boo, or watched any of those kinds of shows. I've now watched the first three episodes straight on Youtube.

:o :o :o

Funnily, as an animal lover, the resounding thought echoing through my brain is how bad I feel for Glitzy. Poor pig, drew the short straw there. :nono:

Lol, that's pretty funny :cheeky:
