I posted before about how the prongs on my new asscher didn''t quite look even and ever since then I''ve been considering changing the head and prongs.

Here''s the link to my ring pics (best pics on page 2) https://www.pricescope.com/forum/show-me-the-ring/my-new-asscher-t100555.html

You can''t really tell from these pics, but the head has a curved "bar" on each side (I don''t know how else to describe it - please pardon my ignorance if there''s a name for it) that I would like to get rid of and have a more "open" head. Also, I''d like to change the prongs into claw prongs because I think they will accentuate the octagonal shape of the stone.

What do all the PS experts think? Would this type of head and prongs still be secure? Would the open head allow more light to enter the stone?

Does anyone have any pics of settings such as those I''ve described? I would appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance! ;-)

Ok for some reason the link isn''t working...

Hmm...I guess you could copy and paste it?

Here''s a profile view of the head.

Lovely ring and beautiful asscher. Looks a LOT like mine before my re-set (a lot). But there are no side views of the basket. It depends on how the head is intergrated into the setting. If it's a peg head, you can change the head. If it's integrated into the shank, you might have to get a brand new setting. Please post pics of the side view, inquiring minds want to know.

ETA: Oh... I LOVE the side view of your setting. That looks nothing like mine. WOW, it's beautiful. PERSONALLY I wouldn't change a thing. That bar is needed. for stability.

As for prongs, I'm not sure what they can do... but they may be able to slim them down and get some talons going. But I'd leave that bar in. I LOVE your setting.

Thanks Gypsy. I''ve considered just having the prongs thinned down as well. I just wasn''t sure if they could do that without re-doing the entire head.

I think the setting is very pretty too. Since you were unhappy with the size of one of the prongs, I''d take it back to the jeweler to see what he suggests.

Thanks for all your comments. I am going to see my jeweler next month (for a pink sapphire) so will talk to her then.
