Hi everyone,

A couple of weeks ago, I tried on the Cartier 1895 Pave engagement ring with a 0.37ct central diamond. I immediately fell in love with this ring. It is so beautiful- classic and timeless. What I really loved was its simplicity and elegance. It seemed to be very well made. However, the ring is priced at £2925 and the diamond is graded H and is a VS2. I know a lot of you have had the same dilemma as to whether you should go for the Cartier and pay quite a bit more or find a very good replica for cheaper. I would like to know what you decided to do and whether you are pleased or whether you have regrets. Also, if you did go down the replica route, where did you go? The other thing I''m interested in finding out is whether A) a £2925 Cartier ring with a 0.37ct, H, VS2 ring or B) a replica ring with a better rated diamond will hold it''s value more.

I look forward to hearing all your thoughts and views. I really hope it will make it easier for me to make a decision.

Many many thanks. x

I''m not engaged, but last summer, when BF and I went to Cartier just to look around, I fell in love with their classic 1895 setting. So beautiful and timeless. But I''d never want to pay the mark-up - I''d rather spend that money on a larger diamond from GOG or BGD or WF or Infinity, which will be cut amazingly well, sparkle like crazy, and be larger. And get the setting made by Leon, who does a similar classic cathedral. If having a "Cartier" ring isn''t that important to you, and it''s really the style you love, I say get it somewhere else! That type of pave setting isn''t that difficult for someone like Brian Gavin or Leon Mege to replicate.

Hi,

betterthandiamond.com sell a Cartier 1895 pave replica setting. I''m not sure how close it is to the original since I''ve never seen the original setting. You would have to purchase the setting from there and then a diamond from somewhere else since they do not sell genuine diamonds.
