I don't think so. This one looks good... for whoever might need a ring. The discount definitely allows for the cost of appraisal

Half retail is not unusual for such things, as far as I know.

I don't know about that one. First of all the pictures are not good, the main diamond doesn't seem to sparkle to me. In their verbage they say VS1 is "close to flawless" maybe a VVS1 could be considered as such. Then did you see the GIA plotting and notes. I guess I am surprised that it is a VS1!

Well... interesting point about the VS1. I guess anyone can call VS1 "close to flawless" - it is not that far and this is not an official statement. I would not expect better sparkle from such amateur pictures, but you've got 61.9 depth, 61% table on the cert for all to see.

Anyway, I was wandering what's with the Black-and white cert pic, market "Duplicate printed on december 13, 2000". Does GIA issue such things?

That's some detective work. The auction closed with no bidder, no wonder!

I thought it fishy because I don't recall seeing that style of ring before, maybe it's old (or maybe I've just never noticed that style before

). And the seller had only 12 feedbacks. I suppose VVS1 is *closest* to flawless so VS1 can be *close* to flawless!

I couldn't see the GIA report clearly -- were there many flaws? Although, it's possible, because there were many *things* on my ring's GIA report and my diamond is VS1.

This is it - I got rid of the code, but otherwise the pic is the same.

There isn't enough detail in the pic to actually identify the ring - but this is why appraisals are out there, I suppose.

In my estimation this is a misleading statement, maybe not official, but certainly misleading.

As for the GIA cert info, as you can see from what Ana printed, there is a feather, cloud, pinpoint, CAVITY, NATURAL, and extra facet. The Cavity and Natural are the ones that would concern me most. I am right now wondering how my diamond got a GIA cert clarity of VS2, since I only have a very small cloud, slight feather and tiny crystal on mine, and my plotting isn't anything like this VS1!!

Must have been a really bad day at GIA when mine was certed.

I saw the GIA report in the auction (it's the same), I just meant that it wasn't bigger or clearer for me to see what's graphed.

I've had the clarity discussion with a few gemmologists(sp?), and was told that even though there may seem like quite a few *dots* or flaws graphed, a diamond can still be graded as VS1 because the flaws are actually very very very minute. It's just a requirement for all/most of the flaws to be plotted.

Have to trust the experts, right?

How right you are, I didn't look at it that way, but the gemologist that sold me the diamond offered to send it back to GIA because she was shocked that it was a VS2! I guess that would have increased my price for the diamond too! LOL

I know that the plottings are usually busier than the diamond actually looks too. I guess I will have to trust the experts!

Wow, you guys are good. I never got past the 6.31 diameter for a 1 ct. stone. I guess I really am looking more for cut than anything else since finding Pricescope. LOL
