Carolina SNOW!

Dreary weather has kept me from taking some gem photos for the past week or so. Not complaining today -- our 2nd snowstorm of the winter is gorgeously happening right now! That makes it the 4th time we've had snow in 10 years, and it's actually sticking on the ground. Big thrill because I do miss a bit of winter at least, in the south. Of course Charlie, my Siberian, is totally blissful & totally wet.

Here's proof. We can do snow in the Carolinas. Our house after the storm about 10 days ago:

And the pond in the pasture across the road, yippee!

It's beautiful!

Indeed, it is beautiful!

Hugs,
Deb

It does look gorgeous there!!! Snow always looks better (to ME!) when it is on someone else's house!! :D

  You wouldn't mind mine then, Enerchi, 'cause it's gone now. Having grown up near Rochester NY, I don't miss those snows at all! But a little winter is nice -- if it could last from Thanksgiving to New Year's Day, then disappear, it would be perfect. Down here it's a nice little adventure to get an inch every 3 or 4 years.

JF you are in the Carolinas too????? We had snow about 2 weeks ago but only about 1 inch or so. It was gone the next morning :nono: Daycare shut down for 2 days....crazy to me since DH and I went to college in NH where it would snow feet and nothing closed.

:wavey: Sarahbear- I think I actually live fairly close to you. Since you said your husband is airforce in another thread, I have a pretty good idea the general area you're in. Maybe a Carolina GTG sometime!!

My goodness, your house is beautiful! I love snow! Now I really do wish I was your neighbor! Not that I didn't before... But more so now!

I live closer to JewelFreak but look forward to meeting you other NC girls in Las Vegas! I love our little snows and hate big ones! But JF, oddly we got none today! The last one a couple of weeks ago was just perfect, though!

I know what you mean- first snow fall "oh, isn't that so pretty?! :praise: " but after a few months of it with still a few months left to go... its more like "Oh CRAP! more @#$%^&* SNOW!!!" :angryfire:

And ... um... I kinda chuckled on this line...
Down here it's a nice little adventure to get an inch every 3 or 4 years. {quote] :naughty: I'd be wanting more than an inch... but are we still on *snow* here??

Yes, Enerchi, it's not enough for me either; I'd like a (short-ish) real winter much better. But I surely do remember the "oh crap, not snow AGAIN" days of my childhood especially when it became all black & gross on the roadsides. Yack. :((

DS, you didn't get snow today, huh? Here it came down in huge fluffy flakes for 2 or 3 hrs, thick & hard. Then it melted, sob. Had a terrific walk with Charlie, snow in my face & hers. She's so short, her tummy always gets sopping wet & that made her very happy. A wet, cold, dirty Siberian is a thrilled Siberian.

YEAH -- HOW ABOUT A CAROLINA GTG??? :wavey: :appl: :wavey: :appl: Great idea! I can't make Vegas so will rely on you wonderful folks to tell all while I drool.

ETA -- Sarahbears, you cracked me up! I get a laugh out of the confusion an inch of snow causes around here. Daycare closed for 2 days, hilarious. Most schools were open here 2 wks ago but starting delayed 2 or 3 hrs. so people could put on their snow tires.

Laurie: That's not really your house - you must've taken that off some Christmas greeting card somewhere! Beautiful - and when I grow up some day I want to live in a house in a place as beautiful as that. :praise:

You probably do  I would love to do a GTG. I was planning on going to Vegas but it is not looking good. If my DH deploys I will need to cancel my trip (and my 30th b-day party in Vegas) to stay and be home with the babies. :(( So I would love to plan something. Perhaps lunch and we could all check out some antique jewelry stores??? I have heard there are supposed to be many of those in triangle area.

SERIOUSLY 2 DAYS!!!!!! They had a sign up at daycare the day before it even snowed saying they would shut down early....but it hadn't even snowed yet!!! It was so frustrating! I had to take 2 days off work and I had a few conferences calls I couldn't miss so I had to annouce at the beginning of each call, "sorry guys but if you hear screaming in the background it is only my 2 toddlers who have the day off. " Then the real kicker was we were in the middle of potty training so on my last call my son starts to yell, "MAMA POOP!! MAMA I HAVE TO GO POOPY NOW!!" I'm almost surprised I still have a job

So on that note- when should we get together?

Snow down here is pretty funny. Yes- they will close schools at even the THOUGHT of a couple of flurries-lol. Just heard on the news this morning that there is a chance of snow for Wednesday. Oh no- I better run to the grocery store right now before they run out of food

Triangle GTG would be great!! Sarahbear, not sure which antique jewelry stores you've heard about  , but I'd be game to find some! And lunch is always good ;))

Oh boy, the fun of parenthood! Sometimes dignity just isn't in the cards.

Let's GTG!! I'm pretty much free all this month. Have not ever roamed jewelry stores in the Triangle, so it sounds great to me! Let's go.

P.S. Minou, this house always photographs fancier than it is; I can't figure out why. I'm about to break the bank to fix up its shabbiness inside -- entire downstairs floors need refinishing & family room has to get hardwood flooring installed; master bath needs a complete makeover, all that sort of fun stuff. Photos were taken by a neighbor who's better at it than I am. But it is a beautiful beautiful neighborhood complete with incredibly nice people -- not knowing a thing about this area when we moved South, we were so lucky to plop down here, I wonder at it all the time. Also full of great dogs!

Laurie, what a beautiful home you have! It's like a postcard!

Too bad about that white stuff all over the place, though. What is that stuff? Can't you hose it off?

:D :D

  Fixed it right up, iLander. It's all brown & dingy again, the way we like it. (But bluebirds are nesting in our bluebird house, busily carrying in their furniture.)

For those intereted ina Triangle GTG- could you email me through one of my listenings on LT or DB? We can aim for the end of March if that works for everyone.

Oddly, my hubby came home yesterday afternoon and he said it snowed hard where he was which was about 15 minutes away from where I was at the time! Our home must have been just over the edge of the snow! We did get about 3 inches a couple of weeks ago and that lasted about 24 hours which was long enough for kids to get to enjoy it! And it didn't mess up the roads..yay!

That's over a 3 hr drive for me and just too far for a day trip. But I do hope you can come to Vegas, Sarah! JF, we will have to GTG in Charlotte sometime! I just don't have a lot of free time at the moment.

Laurie: you are like me in that you deflect compliments! My God, Woman, your house is beautiful - get over it!

And I'm glad your snow is smart enough to know not to stick around and become the brown kind like the Northern kind...

I mean, you have words like "pond" and "pasture" and "woods" to describe your neighborhood - how cool is that?!!

Yes, Minou, I'm just so darn grateful for this neighborhood -- in fact, that's what sold the house to me. I wasn't as nuts about it as DH was, but the view of that pasture across a little road was all I needed.

The original developer designed an equestrian area in the mid-80s with lots a minimum of 5 acres & riding paths all around. He went belly up in the late 80s/early 90s recession & gave it back to the bank with only several houses built. Lots were then sold a few at a time or one at a time to various builders -- so houses are very different from each other, regular ones like ours, Low Country houses, ranch houses & Victorians. Property sizes go from 15 acres to 1 acre (we have just an acre) & all amounts in between. There are woods, a (polluted) long creek & the 8-acre pasture with pond. Most people are good gardeners too -- I love walking the dog & checking out what they've planted; it's so imaginative. We even have neighborhood barbecues or Christmas parties.

In many ways it's idyllic. What gripes me about this metro area is the lack of cultural interest. Sports teams, car racing, their kids, & religion are what people talk about. Haven't run into anyone who's read or wants to discuss a book since we moved here. It's kind of paralyzing. Nothing's perfect!
