Hi -
Does anyone know how feasible it is to purchase GIA certified diamonds in Canada? Most jewelers I have spoken to sell diamonds that are certified from Gem Scan.
Thanks!
Although a lot of stones shown "in house" by b&M jewelers in Canada will have GEM SCAN certs, if you tell your jeweler that you want GIA certified stones, they can call in pretty much anything you are looking for. However, prices will be higher than using some of the great on-line vendors you see here on PC.
I'm from Canada and ended up ordering my diamonds from US vendors. It's not quite as streamlined as buying from a local jewellery store, but not difficult at all, and cheaper (even with gst/hst tacked on at the end). Aside from sales tax, there isn't any tariff associated with importing diamonds/diamond jewellery.
I'm sure your jeweller could call-in any of the virtual stones listed online, if you found one with nice numbers. There will be a shipping cost associated with getting the stone to your jeweller to have a look - around $50-$100 (to ship it securely and properly insured).
