Can you help me find a watch?

I am really thinking of getting a watch with my PS gift. I have always wanted a nice watch, and it is something I would *never* in a million years buy for myself.

Thing is I don't know nuttin' about watches.

Can anyone recommend a good quality, beeoootiful watch for around $1000? Many PS vendors carry watches so I am hoping that with some suggestions I can maybe find one through one of them!

I like sleek, classic styles. Diamonds an added bonus ;)) Nothing huge and colorful. Classic. I prefer bracelet style to belt style (haha, is that even the terms?), metal not leather strap.

Help???

A lotttttttt of people wear Michele watches. They have tons of different styles and looks. I find that they're perfect for anyone who is looking to have a classy, simple, yet beautiful watch. I'll post a picture of mine in a minute. Tag has good watches too. SO is VERY VERY into watches and always recommended those to me for the 1000$ budget I had.

Sorry its not rotated but I have this one:

Granted, the face is HUGE but I bought it because it was different. All white face and diamonds inside of the watch instead of around the bezel like most watches. They do have similar ones that aren't so big. They have ones with thinner 'straps', round faces, rectangular faces, square face, you name it...they have it.

I have two Chanel watches that I really love too. Would you possibly want a ceramic watch? They have reaaaally nice ones that are in your budget and they also look really classy yet different. Ceramic is awesome, very scratch resistant.

From what I can tell, Michele is not carried by any of the PS vendors, and the Tag watches carried by Since1910 are all over $1500...

I honestly don't know much about which PS vendors carry what, just figured I would throw it out there. Were you looking for Tag watches on their actual site? There are a lot of places to get them for less than what they are advertised for.

Since I was to use my PS gift, it needs to be bought from a PS vendor.

These are the brands... any comments on which ones are better?

Oris
Tag Heuer
Hamilton USA
Maurice Lacroix
Raymond Weil
Tissot
Breil

And a few others that don't look so promising.

Oh ok. I know a lot more about watches than I do about diamonds, do any PS vendors have a list of what brands they carry on their websites by any chance?

Of all of them, this one is my favourite. A little different looking, but classic. I don't think that Longines is carried by any of the PS vendors though...

Alright so out of all the watches you listed I think Tag is the best. SO is HEAVILY, HEAVILY into watches and he agreed that Tag is the best brand out of all of them, along with Raymond Weil.

OK. Ther website for Tag though does not show many options. Do you think there are other styles that cost less?

And what about at a $500 price point? Now DH is saying he would like a watch too, and to be honest, that would be nice to get him if I went this way. For us, a $500 watch is still *very* luxurious.

Hm...not liking the vendors' collections. Are any of them willing to order something from the watch company's catalogue for you?
If so, I'd check out the sites and see which ones you like. Oris, Raymond Weil and Maurice Lacroix are within your price range and you can get something for both you and your partner for around 1k and a bit over perhaps depending on style you select. :)

What do you think of the Noemia?
http://www.raymond-weil.com/EN/Watches/Noemia.html

Abazias also stocks Baume & Mercier - so if you find something you like, ask if they can order it in for you.

Tag is by far the best brand from the list you gave me but it would be way over budget for the style you want. A decent TAG will set you back a at least 2k.

There are lots of good watches around $100-500 range. A lot of the designer brands actually use Swiss movements from SWATCH but charge heaps more. So don't get swooshed in by the labels because underneath the face it's a Swatch watch.

I really do feel watches are a personal preference. For example, a lot of my friends love TAG, OMEGA, Rolex but I am not a fan. My DH and I love watches but we prefer Panerai and Cartier. So it really is personal preference.

I agree that watches are a personal preference. SO used to have panerai's and now he's into Audemars Piguet...preferences can change over the years :) However, I have to disagree that a TAG would set back at least 2k (if she was buying for herself). You just have to be smart where you buy from.

i love their Royal Oak line.

Dreamer,
I have a Raymond Weil that I love and have had for years. You could easily get one with some diamonds for $1000 or plain for $500 ( and still get one for DH. I prefer the Raymond Weil styling to Tag ( more formal, less sporty). I highly recommend the brand as a mid-range watch that will last for years.

Yep, the Raymond Weil watches are less sporty---really depends on what kind of looking for but SO said that they're great watches for the price.

I love it, though not the pave face perhaps, just the diamonds on the inner face. I think if I spoil just me I would opt for that one. This is the one that has really caught my eye and Solomon carries it: http://www.raymond-weil.com/EN/Watches/Noemia.html#Noemia-5927-SPS-00995

I've had a Raymond Weil watch for about 15 years now. I love the styling, but not the maintenance. It had to go back to one of their service centers for battery replacement (about 1X per year) and it's had to have at least two major servicings during the time I've had it. The last time it went to RW for servicing they told me it would need a new movement at a cost about equal to what I paid for the watch in the first place... so I took it to a local watch repair guy who swapped out the RW movement for a new, generic movement. On the other hand, I also have a vintage Hamilton (wind-up) that has lasted for 40-50 years with no apparent problem, and a quartz Baume et Mercier, 14k case and bracelet, that's probably 30 years old and still runs like a champ.

ETA the RW you just posted is a beauty though...

Do you really think the no-diamonds versions are so little? There are none listed on the Solomon Bros. website so it is hard to judge.

Well that is not reassuring. If I spent that amount I would really want something easy to maintain. Maybe I am not a high-end watch type of gal ;))

maybe like 5K for S/S models??

12 Audemars Piguets? wow :o That's one expensive collection!
DH also loves A Lange & Sohne and Patek Phillipe. I would like a 2C diamond ring upgrade with matching necklace, bracelet and earrings before he gets one of those. :naughty:

Audemars Piguet - Here is one that is a limited edition:

One battery change per year? That is ridiculous. I've had my cartier for 4 years now and no issues ever - nor have I had to ever change the battery. I say go Baume & Mercier - Abazia stocks them so ask them to order them for you. :)

Entirely way too expensive collection that my brain still can't wrap itself around or justify it. Ever. I will say, the price you see on that limited royal oak carbon piece can be found for cheaper with the right connections.

Phillipe's are awesome...so timeless and intricate.

Dreamer, keep in mind that if the watch is manual or automatic makes a difference in price too..

Most of the ones I have seen that are in my price range are Quartz movements, so they need a battary... neither automatic or manual I guess??

I think that Solomon may only carry the Baum watches that are discontinued?

What do you think of this one... I do like a deal ::)

I have one automatic watch and the other two quartz, and I love not having to worry about winding them up!!! If you don't wear an automatic for, lets say 30 days...you have to wind it 30 times so it holds its time (in my experience) and for whatever reason that annoys me, haha.

P.s. lovin that band on the watch!!
