Can this be set with a princess?

The head you showed is rather different to the one on the ring because it has an emerald cut shape - it has 2 stones on each corner de-emphasising the square shape.
This means there will be a big gap along the edges of your princess - most people would not like that.
The gap would be larger than if you used the shape in the first link designed for a round stone.
Why not choose a square head?

Can you elaborate more on the round head?

I am not a jeweler, so I don't know enough about this stuff to make the best decision. I basically want my current princess to fit in that setting if possible.

Basically I purchased a VS2 .52 carat diamond in a princess cut, but im past my return date... I purchased it and liked the diamond itself, but it just didn't seem big enough, but to be honest I cant afford an 8k ring right now. So I may have to cut my losses and sell my .52 and pickup another stone that fits that setting.

I have a basic 18k white gold setting that the ring is in.

It might be possible if you choose the correct head. The jeweller who showed you this:

selected one that is not for a princess cut shape but for an emerald (clipped corners instead of pointy corners). If you can get one with the pointy corner, it should fit.
