Can someone recommend some sunglasses (mid price, good quality, durable)

I haven't bought them for so long that I'm lost. I have a 6 year old pair of Maui Jim's. They are pretty dark and I'm looking for something a bit lighter, the brown/amber/rose type color.

What are people buying nowadays?

Thanks so much.

LOL! Still buying Maui Jim's. IS there any other? I doubt I'll ever switch. They do have rose and bronze lenses, although I prefer the gray ones simply because there is the least color distortion with those, but a nice rose lens IS very soothing.

I guess I'm really no help. I'd just stick with a new pair of Maui Jim's. :)

I'm biased as well, I have a few pairs of Maui Jims and for the quality of the lenses wouldn't go with anything else, they have around 3 or 4 different tints in their lenses and do have a pinkish one.... I tried on Raybans and difference in the quality of the lenses is noticeable....

Thanks, Ksinger. I tried on the rose lenses today and it made things look a slight bit more colorful & happy (funny way to describe it, maybe, but that is what I felt).

Any online stores with good prices?

What are Oakley's like?

Oakley is a good alternative with some lens options.

Honestly, I've never seen them at much of a discount anywhere online. They do seem to command a premium. Unfortunately for me, I have to have correction, so the price gets REALLY stupid then. Yikes.

I still have a corrected pair of older MJ Shorelines. I bought them with the stock glass lenses (which I still have, lovingly saved and packed away) and then had them re-done in my script. Since they are a bit older, they have a slightly different prescription in them, so they're my backups. If I don't have them replaced with a newer script at some point, I'll replace my lenses with the pristine glass ones and try to sell them. I suspect I could get a reasonable sum for them. Anyway, right now I'm wearing a pair of Rainbow Falls. VERY comfy wrap-arounds with great peripheral views.

Costco often has neuteral-gray (I don't like tint of any hue) polarized Maui Jims and Hobies for around $70 that sell for around $300 at Sunglasses Hut.

I LURV! these!

I have like 8 pair of sunglasses. I know, ridiculous. I think the best quality ones I have are Smiths. I have my dad's Ray-Ban Wayfarers from the 60's, never wear them because they're too heavy. My favorite pair are some Fossils I got from a random department store, but I don't think Fossil is making sunglasses anymore? My Marc Jacobs are crap, I do not recommend that designer for eyewear. I have some Bolle...meh. All my others are trendy cheapos that last for a few months until I leave them somewhere or sit on them. Now you guys have me reminiscing about my Oakley Frogskins with the clear frames and iridescent lenses. Dear 1990s: I miss you!

I think so many pairs of sunglasses are made by this one company in Italy. My wayfares work fine for me, but I doubt if I'll buy another pair of sunglasses in the near future. I wanted to love Warby Parker, but the overall quality was disappointing.

Yup, Luxottica Group. ETA: they owned Casual Corner back in the day and when I worked there they sent every employee a panettone and it was terrible. I have never forgotten that, so funny.

I got a pair of brand new Maui Jim "baby beach" sunglasses with copper frames on eBay for about $70 off of retail. I really love them.... They also come in gold and silver frames...

Maui Jim? Are they that good?

I buy mine at TJ Maxx for 9.99 or 14.99 max. That way, if they get crushed in my bag or I accidentally sit down on them after leaving on driver's seat in the car, I throw them out without a second thought.

I have about 6 pairs of maui jims. I love them and find it hard to wear any other. I usually buy all my glasses at Costco. I have tried a couple other brands there that were fine, but I always go back to the maui jims. I have bought a couple pairs on ebay too. I just throw them in the inside pocket of my purse and don't worry about them. The cases are usually too big for me to want to keep in my purse,

Yes!
I love the optical quality, very sharp and clear.

I have two pair of "good" sunglasses. Ray ban aviators and some Prada ones I bought from nordstrums rack. I'm obsessed with both. They feels much more substantial than other cheaper ones I've bought.

The Prada ones are big white circles, I will wear them until the end of time. And at nordsrums rack they ended being I think. 70?

That's where I look for sunglasses always because if they are a timeless design I don't care if they are out of season, and they can be a fairly discounted price.

Oh boy, just fished out another pair of sunglasses with a popped lens from my bag. Where exactly in Costco can these amazing Maui Jims be found? Are they by optical center? Although, not sure these will make any sense money wise given that I go thru at least 2 pairs a season.

Monnie, so random...but I used to work there too awhile back and the Panettone was TERRIBLE and hilarious to me! But the discount at Sunglass Hut was great! Now I'm curious what area you worked??!!

My husband and I are huge Ray Ban fans! I own two aviators and one pair wayfarer. I also own a D & G pair too! I actually just bought a new pair of aviators today! I think finding the right brand all depends on what style you are looking for and then find a color combo that works for you!

Ha!!! Yeah, it was so bad. Dry and hard as a brick from what I recall. I worked at the Terre Haute, IN location until they closed that one in...1998? My boss, Marcia was a TRIP! My friend who worked there got one of those floating diamond necklaces (remember those? They were on an "invisible" plastic "chain" and they were these itty bitty bezeled round diamonds that appeared to be floating) and we talked about jewelry all the time. Maul jewelry. I wouldn't find PS until 2006, sadly!

Ha ha! Yes I do remember those necklaces! I, like you, always loved jewelry but I didn't find PS till 2009! Gasp! I really enjoyed all of the people I worked with at Casual Corner. I was at the home office until 2005 ish when they closed their doors.

Oh, wow. Here's what's even crazier: my husband is from Hartford County. Small world!

Thanks all!!!

Wow, that is crazy! Well if you guys are ever in the area for a visit and have time for a meet up! Let me know!

Sorry for the threadjack Sonoma! It is just so nice when you find something interesting in common with another PSer other than the sparklies!

^I'll stop quoting so this doesn't take up any more space! Sonoma, thanks for letting us threadjack for a second. I hope you find some new sunglasses you like, sounds like you should stick with MJ since everyone is so happy with theirs.
Lizzyann, I will definitely look you up if we visit! Also your name reminds me of lisianthus. That flower might not grow in your zone, but it's really pretty and sounds like your screen name! :wavey:

You're up early! Revo is still in business, owned by LUX. My husband wears Revo, no idea how old they are. I couldn't find any women-specific styles, though. I think they are all either men's or unisex and they're all about performance/functionality so they look pretty utilitarian.
