Hey bling!

To get the best results from DiamCalc is an actual scan of the stone in question via Sarin whose 3d model can then be imported into the software. The scan pretty accurately portrays the optical results of the diamond via LightScope or FireScope.

Here are pics of the results of an actual scanned diamond next to it's DiamCalc counterpart. Note how similar the results are in the graphics.

To be continued...

For basic DiamCalc results the following *minimums* are needed (highlighted in red)

  • Min and max diameter (in mm).
  • Depth in millimaters
  • Crown angles (% can be used as an alternative but angles are more accurate)
  • Table size.
  • Pavilion angles.

And while this is *good* info to have it still does not tell the whole story.

There is a section to input star length and lower girdle depth which of course adds more pieces to the puzzle for the
g-man who has the tools to measure the minor facets. This gives an even closer result to the actual diamond but does not account for the variances which can disrupt the optical symmetry.

Altering minor facet measurements can change the appearance of the diamomd from this ...

to this ... which ultimately affects it's brilliance & scintillation primarily. So while DiamCalc is an excellent tool, sometimes results can be a little misleading if all of the proper information is not input into it. When we are calling suppliers for Sarin information not one that I know of provide minor facet details to accurately portray the actual appearance of the diamond which is why a physical analysis, of course, is preferred.

So bling... if you want DiamCalc results give us *at least* the basics and we can help. That is, if Rich doesn't post it before I do.
