Can someone explain this to me... why would you buy this diamond?

I'm asking an honest question, not attempting to be snarky here.

Obviously a vendor took the time, effort and money to have this diamond graded by the GIA... it has a poor cut but a hefty 2.62 carat size. So I assume he reasons that there's somebody out there who wants it.

In what instance would someone want a diamond like this? As in, would it be reasonable to buy this diamond to set it as a pendant or something? I'm just curious about any potential projects that might involve a large, "poor" cut diamond because I have never even run across such a large diamond that rates "poor" on GIA's cut scale.

Because it was cut for color retention.

Sorry, I'm a not a diamond expert. Does this means that it's not actually a poorly cut diamond in the sense that it was shoddily cut, but rather, cut on purpose to retain the fancy color? Why does that count as a "poor" cut? I would think the average layman consumer, such as myself, would veer away from a diamond that was noted as such.

Sory forget my comments - just realised it's not a round cut:

In an ideal world you''d have both, great color AND great cut. But, when you''re dealing with a fancy color, color trumps cut. GIA can''t just have a cut grade for "great color-ignore the cut"

The numbers are the numbers, ya know.

I guess it would be interesting to see how poor, poor is? There''s a dealer in colored stones with some of the funkiest cuts I''ve seen. Doesn''t seem to stop people from buying them.

color stones are very "tricky" to price.

I can''t see the dimamond on the link??
