My husband can 3D print any non-diamond setting we can think of, so we started with this simple knife edge band. I’m not sure about the projection of the stone and feel like it might need more metal and/or diamonds in the setting to make the diamond look a bit more integrated or cohesive.

We’re now doing a cad for something a bit thicker and with double claw prongs. I’m wondering if this diamond would work with tapered baguettes, or is there too little space on either side? I quite like the idea of very slim tapered baguettes but would also like to see some band, and would like to keep the knife edge. I don’t like the baguette style where there is a bar of metal on either side of the baguettes; does anyone know how else baguettes can be set? I am also wavering on maybe just making the current style more cathedral. If we choose a setting without diamonds then we can just print it in gold. That would be pretty cool, but I just feel unsure about leaving it completely solitaire.

I would love to hear any of your setting ideas!

Ok. So, you must envision your center Asscher in these settings, but you’ll get the idea.
These are more on the elevated or Cathedral side, without standing too high off the finger. Dainty, but sturdy. Classic, and you can still see the metal.
Yes, these photos are from Pinterest. F11AAA6D-8A6D-453F-B245-708E7027A141.jpeg 293BAEE1-523D-41CF-8CE7-6D3F60B382D7.jpeg D9A3620F-CE57-44F6-ADB7-317B59737A31.jpeg 04F5E02B-B3CC-46F4-AFBA-F5E8863DBAD4.jpeg

Then, you have the bullet side stones:

Still classic, elegant, and complimentary to any step cut center attraction....

I like a plain shank for that stone... that HUGE diamond looks so chic in plain metal. I like the idea of double claw prongs though... or even very low profile antique-looking tab prongs to show off the shape??

Oh gosh yes - tab prongs are perfect for asschers - they really help accentuate those gorgeous clipped corners

Thank you @Matthews1127 ! My favorite is number two with the very slim tapered baguettes. I really want to eliminate the metal at the end of the baguettes however. I think the baguettes might be able to be embedded in a channel instead? I would also love to retain the knife edge. I’ll see if my husband can design this.

My husband is determined that his new career is jewelery design; and I am trying to gently gently convince him that we just may need a jeweler; specifically Victor Canera! I’ve told him that his cad could be inspiration and be redone by VC. I get puppy dog eyes.

I have thought about this, but I just love really super delicate double claws. I call them salamander claws. I do want to see the corners though, atm it looks square.

Antique looking prongs sounds interesting. Are you thinking engraved?

You can customize the side stones to either Channel Set or even bezel set them & add a splash of millgrain Detail along the bezel edge for that vintage flair, and do the shank in knife edge. It’s great that your hubs wants to design your ring!! However, this just may be a job for Victor, indeed!!!
Please keep us posted!!!

What about bezel set traps or bullets? I adore the sleek and clean lines look of a bezel set trap/bullet paired with sleek double claw prongs on a step cut!! This obviously is a 5 stone but you can imagine it as a 3 stone =)2.

Edited to add: This is a Victor Canera creation

If the corners are small, it's hard to get double claws there. But I agree with others that tab prongs are common on antique asscher rings, and I used them on my antique asscher. I am not sure if the lighting of the pics shows it, but they do keep the corners noticeable.

Your diamond is gorgeous and BIG, by the way!

No engraving... just super refined tabs. Caysie has done several and you can find a ton on Lang.
