Hello, I''ve got a question.
Can a diamond be set too high? My fiance proposed with a beautiful 1.50 princess cut solitare in a tulip setting. The diamond is amazing but I''m afraid it might look silly up so high...it makes the diamond look huge.
Is my diamond safer in a ring where it''s mounted closer to my finger??

thanks.

That is totally a personal preference. I have found that my rings that sit high tend to get knocked on more things- and with princess I would probably worry about chipping the girdle. But others on this site have said they have higer set rings that they knock around with no problem. Also, I deal with a lot of small kids- I would worry about it scratching them.....but again, it is totally personal preference- if you like it, it is right for you. You may be able to get the head lowered if it bothers you.

Let me tell you, those settings would drive me absolutely completely up the wall. When my SO and I went and shopped for rings we included in our list of requirements "must be able to easily put hand in pocket". (Jeans pockets are tight, ok?) However, it will make your diamond look bigger because of the perspective, so it's not all bad. If it's not bugging you, and you're not snagging it on things all the time, then you're apparently more graceful than I am, and should go with whatever pleases you. Then get the prongs checked every 6 months for safekeeping.
