We have cordless landline phones and I am interested in switching them to corded phones. However as I am looking on Amazon it seems all they have are products with not wonderful reviews. Can anyone recommend an easy to use and reliable corded landline phone that won't break the bank? I love the retro phones but I am looking for inexpensive and simple corded phone with caller id.

Thanks.

Hi,

My landline is over 10 yrs old. It is a General Electric and has caller ID. I love it because this model has a extra large key pad and a speaker to use when I have a long wait for an agent of some sort. At the time it was 25.00 in a store like Walmart ( K-mart) I need a new one because I keep this in my kitchen and the original white has tanned. I would get this again. I think GE was always a good brand until recently.

Thanks Annette. I searched on Amazon but couldn't find any GE corded phones with caller id that fit the bill in terms of decent reviews so my guess is they aren't making them like they used to...big surprise. Not.

Thanks @Dancing Fire. I will go check that out. I ended up purchasing an AT&T phone from Amazon yesterday that will be here tomorrow and hopefully it will be adequate for my needs. Who knew how difficult it was to get an inexpensive and reliable corded phone.

OK just checked your link out and thanks. The one I purchased is very similar to the one you linked but not the same exact model so fingers crossed it will still be sufficient for my needs and work properly. Thanks again.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one with a landline! I don't even know why we keep it, but it's just something I don't want to give up, although our service is through internet.

Last time I remember it was in the mid 70's.

I have no memory of the free phones the phone company gave to their customers..I will ask my mom. I am sure it is just my poor memory. I do remember that my mom and dad got my sister and me a separate phone line because we were almost teenagers and between my mom and my sister and me (we were chatty cathy's lol) the phone number was always busy. So at the tender age of 10 and 12 we got our own phone line and we had the sweetest princess phone. Of course nowadays little kids just get their own mobile phones. What a different world it is. Love those retro phones. Might have to get one for the bedroom now.

Yes I am reluctant to give up either land line (we have one here and one at the beach). Here (NYC) we have normal landline phone service. Old fashioned plug the phone into the wall through the jack. Not internet. But at the beach house our landline phone service is through the internet. I definitely prefer real landline phone service as for us at least it seems more reliable than the landline we have at the beach house.

@missy I wanted to keep "real" landline service, but it was cost prohibitive here. Also, as I have no family left, literally no one ever calls me on the landline. Telemarketers, but no one I want to talk to. I let my DH switch it to internet, but really, what good is that? If the power goes out, no phone service. Same if internet goes out. I do have a cell phone.

Makes complete sense. I keep thinking we should get rid of our landlines too. We all have mobile phones and it is expensive keeping both landlines. But I just prefer talking on a landline. Maybe I am imagining it but I feel like I can hear more clearly on the landline...but the reason I am getting corded phones now (vs the cordless landlines phones we have) is because my friend explained to me how risky cordless phones can be. It seems if we examine anything too closely we realize the risks. I have not yet watched this video my friend sent me but if you are interested. I am not getting rid of my laptop though.:(sad
