Can anyone help me?

Hi, I just registered today so forgive me for being so new at this. I was wondering if anyone can help me with this. I have been looking at this ring and I can''t decide if I am making a good choice. Here are the specs:

2.21 carat J/VS2 asscher cut
7.18x7.14x4.96mm
69.5% depth
72% table
slightly thick girdle
excellent polish
very good symmetry

Is a J in color an "ok" choice? The GIA report says that it has a feather in it. I have tried the ring on and it is beautiful, but I''m afraid that it may be risky to get a J/VS2. I didn''t get a chance to use a loupe to check it out. I was just so nervous at the time. This ring is from GDC. Here is the actual pic of it.

The pix looks lovely and if it sang to you & cried out "I am the one!" then by all means, you should have it!

I''m an Asscher e-ring gal & pretty liberal in my scope of acceptable specs ... but if you want my opinion about the #s only ... 72% table sounds very very large to me. Most folks around here say keep Asschers under 65% table (mine is 67%). Such a large table will probably make the stone less "fiery" ... but that could be fine if you love it.

Color is a personal thing. I''ve seen a "K" asscher in person, 3cts, that I would have considered ... but ultimately I picked a GIA graded "H".

I would also make sure to look at it in a variety of lighting situations .. outside of jewelry store lighting. Have them follow you out to the street or go into office lighting etc. Perhaps you could have a local appraiser check it out & give you advice also if you''re not sure of your own judgement.

I would not call it risky to get a J/VS2. A J asscher will definetly show warmth but since you have seen it in person, you will know what you thought of the color. There is not rule stating that diamonds must be blindingly white, as some prefer a little color. Can you see the inclusion without a loupe?

Welcome.

Deco and Jazmine have given you good advice, there is an example of a fabulous 2 ct J Asscher, do a search for Tierhog, many embrace a hint of colour. A feather in a VS2 shouldn't be a problem also depending on the location of it, you could get an independant appraisal just to check it out if you wish.

Here is the thread for you TierHog's Royal Asscher Although the cut is a bit different to a generic, it should give you an idea. If you love the J in the diamond you are considering, then that is the important thing!

We really need pictures in order to best judge asschers. You have seen them both so I think that you are truly the best judge here.

I just did a quick search here. The price is high compared to online stores even with the setting included. But very few B&Ms can match the online vendors.

I would be HIGHLY skeptical of an SI2 Asscher....Could you see/not see the inclusions?

Jazmine is right, that price is high. Do a search of loose stones, and you can get a higher color, if that is what you want, and probably get the setting made or find something almost identical for quite a bit less.

You are so lucky that you''ve been able to see these stones and compare them side-by-side.

The reason you see so much emphasis on numbers, grades, etc etc on PS is because most people here are aren''t as lucky, and are trying to choose a stone sight unseen.

If I were you, I''d disregard the stats (assuming they are all fairly priced) and trust my own eyes and heart over any opinions I could get here...

Yeah, I can''t believe I missed the SI2 part. I highly doubt that diamond is eye clean, as there are plenty of brilliant cut diamonds that are not eye clean at that clarity.

yep. that H/SI2 ring was eye clean. I wore them side by side. The H/SI2 ring costs $140 more than the J/VS2 ring. It also weighs less too. He knocked off a few thousand off the prices of these two rings already. If you go to their website, you will see that they cost $29,000+ Georgiadiamond.com p.19(am I allowed to write this? If not, sorry for breaking the rules)

The rings are from an award winning designer. I don''t know if this is the reason why they''re so pricey. I noticed that a couple of PS members have used them before too. They seemed pretty happy with their purchase. Should I keep looking?
