I just saw a royal asscher in person...yaowser! Is it possible to ever find a square emerald cut or regular asscher to come close to a royal in terms of light despertion? I understand the royal has 16 more facets, but many have recommended here to try looking for a non branded for savings$ sake. Is there one out there as gorgeous as the royal????????

No.

I'm not a fan of branded diamonds, but in the case of the Asscher those extra facets (and the guarantee of a true hexagonal shape) really *make* that deep, pool-like effect. I know other people don't really care, but if I were shopping for an Asscher I wouldn't settle for anything less than a Royal Asscher. (Though I wouldn't mind "settling" for a vintage asscher so at least I could call it an antique as consolation!

I don't know... but, non-branded 'asschers' (square emeralds) are not all that many to go around (compared to rounds or other fancies) although their numbers have greately increased following fashion. I guess the only way is to take the specs of the royal and shop around. I seriously bet you can get lucky.

to answer your first quesiton... No. It is my opinion that if you LOVE the way a royal asscher looks you will not find equal in a sq. emerald.
BUT
if it is the quality you are intrested in and the basic shape, maybe you will be happy with the sq.em.?

after looking at a sq. em. side by side with a royal asscher I realized i would rather have a royal asscher even if it meant that the extra $$ would mean a smaller diamond.

but thats just me.

It depends on your perspective, we looked at the Royal Asscher and thought it to be a bit busy because of the extra facets... We prefer the more traditional cut Asscher. Some people love the RA and others dislike it... Go for the look that you prefer.
