I really like this 1930's house that has been redone. Plumbing, air, roof, windows, orginal hardwood but new floor joists...

But this bathroom. It's all new so I'd feel weird ripping it out. Plus, it wouldn't be first on the project list anyway.

How do you make this color blue look modern. FYI my least favorite color is BLUE. Notice the mirrors, too

My Mom suggested a contrasting color could make it tolerable - Contrasting? Like what? Terracotta?

a darker taupe wall color could be really cool...and then use whites blacks as accents maybe? also modern artwork could assist. if that is the only blue item in the room you can definitely downplay it. for what it's worth i love blue (fave color) so that room would be so fun to play around with!! but i wouldn't let it ruin the rest of the house for you. you can make it tolerable and then switch it out later if you need to.

If the bathroom is the *only* think holding you back I wouldn''t let it ruin it as a possible home. Like you said you would redo it anyways. From someone who currently lives in a brass palace (we are *slowly* changing everything over) it really doesn''t take long to get used to something. I would not even spend the time or money making it more your style if you are just going to redo it.

It is a bit mingy!

I would not be put off the house purchase.

Good news is that others may well be put off.

Less bidders = sweeter price for you (and a good bargaining chip to reduce sale price).

I would buy if I loved the house but I would relish the idea of pulling out all bathrooms kitchens wardrobes etc. Hmmm.

Home Improvements!

I believe that there is special paint out there for ceramic tile. I think it would look a whole lot better if you painted the tub surround. Might make it tolerable until you can redo.

Second least favorite color - Pink

It all depends on the local market where you are, but in general I think if you are getting all the charm and good things of an old house, you have to take for granted that you will be doing some surface updates. Is the price such that you will have some budget left over to change the things you don''t like? Or, can you live with them til you have that budget? It is great that some of the major structural things are already done and it sounds like the problems are cosmetic - that''s the best situation!

To answer your question, I would never let the bathroom or other surface cosmetic issues ruin the sale, IF everything else is right - location, price, size, floor plan - because those things are much harder to change.

There are services that come in an re-coat bathtubs and can change the color. You could see if there are any good service providers in your area. Meanwhile - camoflague - plants on the sides maybe? Some gorgeous towel racks and towels to look at instead? Mara's suggestion of a dark taupe wall paint is a good one so you'll have less contrast.

I think the idea of the tile paint is a good one. I am sure there are paints that can coat tile. At minimum you could paint out that backsplash and make it the same color as the wall. That would help.

You''re buying the house, not the decor. You can paint over the awful pink and you can put in a new tub. Does the house have "good bones"? If so, go for it! All the rest is just cosmetic.

OMG, you can totally makeover the bathroom and the pink-ness....that house is gorgeous overall! DH and I bought a very similar (minus the front porch) brich Georgian a few years ago and have been mostly happy here ever since. We love the architechtural details (ours was built in ''48), the hardwood floors, etc. I LOVE the height of Georgians, the interior details, the brick, etc. What a gem you''ve come across, please don''t let the minor details deter you.

Piece of cake! You have you PS board to help you. Mara has great skills and if curio isn't busy she may throw some advice.

I see spa blue and white. Leave all the blue and embrace it ( is the toilet also blue?). I wouldn't change one thing's color and not the rest-a sink is inexpensive and you can get a toitey for $100-your tub recolor will at least be $300.

Remove the mirror wall....and replace with groupings of ledge type shelving loaded with big white fluffy towels rolled. Apothecary jars filled with cotton balls and sea glass. A few modern pendant light fixtures that hang from the ceiling in blue shades...or large white fixtures...and as mara said a large art piece on the wall that compliments the blue and I think it should carry on a serene spa feel.

Or To minimize the blues...The steps that lead up to the tub and the deck can be tiled. An easy cheap weekend project. You could also tile the counter top to match. There are some slate looking tiles that have greys and blue hues. I would paint the walls a shade contained in the slate tiles. A shade of dark charcoal for the back wall and taupe (as Mara said) on the side walls. Or on the back wall ~ take the slate tile all the way up to the ceiling say middle 1/3 of the width of that back wall. I would have one ledge shelf that held a bamboo stalk or a large ceramic vase with a single palm fron.

I prefer chrome fixtures...but you can use that antique black iron style to keep your redo in keeping with the era of your home. Too much chrome may extend too much of a modern feel. You can still update...just use hardware that is more in tune with the rest of the house. Just changing and updating the hardware will freshen up your impression of the blue! Honest!!

You really have a great large space...I think that is what you should be focusing on...not the colors.
