I''ve had my Vatche setting since about July of last year and it''s holding up beautifully... I woudn''t hesitate at all to recommend them. I still absolutely LOVE my ring. The only thing that I would bring to your attention is that there aren''t bands that will sit flush with the setting. The one that I have is curved, but I normally wear the ring alone because it''s just that pretty... imho.
Thankyou Mrss, Its good to know that. I read some threads on here that there had been a couple of issues with quality, but I think they were quite old.
Thumbelina - thankyou! I was hoping you would respond. I have saved pictures of your rings on my computer and I look at them a lot! I love the wedding band you wear with it, can I ask where you bought that from?
Aww how sweet! I am rather excited too. I think this is the only setting that gives me that excited feeling in my tummy! I just hope I get it soon. I'm not very good at waiting!
Hey Maisie! That''s the setting I finally picked too. I also saved Thumbelina''s pics and look at them often. I''ve also been looking for curved wedding bands, but might go the custom route if I really do finally decide on this setting. It''s hard to find nice curved WB''s, and I also thought Thumbelina''s was the nicest I''ve seen. My other current favourite setting is WooBug''s new Beverly K. It''s taken me 6 months just to narrow things down to 2. Good luck!
I've had my Vatche (not Thumblinas, but one from the same collection) since November '06. It still looks brand new and no problems with the diamonds! Excellent quality!
How nice to get such compliments on my set... thank you!
I actually got my WB from Shane. It''s platinum to match the Vatche, has 21 (.11 ctw) teeny tiny diamonds that go half way around the band, and was just shy of $900. I''ve actually looked for other bands, but this one really does compliment the ering perfectly (although I have been toying with the idea of getting a second band for the opposite side of the ering
... it''s nice to have options!). What I like about the Vatche is that it doesn''t have milgrain, like many antique/antique-like settings do. The band also does not have milgrain - giving the set a bit of a sleeker look (if that makes sense).
Before I decided on the setting, I actually got in touch with Vatche and they had great customer service. They told me what jewelers they worked with in my area, and when I chose one to work with, Vatche sent a setting for me to try on before deciding to buy. Vatche was also willing to make little tweaks to the design if I wanted -- I wasn''t sure I liked the little bands on both sides of the shank. Turns out the design was perfect, and I didn''t ask to change anything.
How very exciting for you both, Maisie and Lyra! I know how excited I was to find the setting... and I am still so in love with it. I told hubby that this was the one and that I never wanted to change it... and I meant it!!! Trouble is, though, I keep complaining about the extra pounds I need to lose. He said that although he loves me as I am, if I need some motivation, he''ll get me a "bigger rock" when I reach my goal. Oh, the pressure!
Would love to know what you both finally decide... and can''t wait for those pics!
Thanks for your response Thumbelina. (sorry for hijacking, Maisie) Maisie''s in a different time zone I think. I''m in Canada, and I can''t find a Vatche dealer anywhere in this country, so I''ll have to just order and hope for the best. I don''t know exactly when I''ll get mine. Working out the details with hubby, and there may be a delay to get it in the right head size. I''m going for white gold, don''t think I could ever keep platinum looking good! I really love this ring, and it''s the only one that I''ve loved for a long time in this process. So maybe there will be 3 on PS, but I believe we''re all in different parts of the world! Take care!
I am in the UK so I would probably have to wait till I come to New York to get my setting. I really don't want the hassle of sending my diamond forwards and backwards again.
Thank you for the reply about the band Thumbelina. It really does look beautiful with your setting, I hope I can find a band just as lovely when I come over there!
Wow, what an incentive to lose some weight!! I wish my hubby would offer me something sparkley to keep me going!! Mind you, he would say a new setting is sparkle enough!
I looked on the Shane website and could only find this ring. Its probably near enough the same as yours though. Its a really good price! Are you also happy with your band?
Maisie, I''m not sending my diamond. I would just be ordering the semi-mount, likely from Excel. They sell the mounting without the diamond. I emailed them about the head size I required and they said they could do that. I would get it set locally, since it''s insured and everything.
I''ve seen some curved wedding bands at Marlene Harris (although someone here cautioned about her ethics, she has a nice selection), one at Ross-Simons that looks extremely close to Thumbelina''s also. Are you going platinum? I''m not sure if I only saw WG or both at these places. Antiqueengagementrings.com has one curved band in platinum or WG, but it does have milgraining. I still thought it might be appropriate. I will ask my jeweller about custom though. Maybe it wouldn''t be too expensive, and for sure they''d make it to fit.
BTW, Maisie, is your anniversary Sept. 16? I think I read that in one of your threads. Mine is Sept. 17th. Weird, huh?
Yes Lyra my anniversary is Sept 16! How exciting! We will be celebrating at the same time!!
I have seen a lovely curved band on Whiteflash but its almost double the price of the one on Shane & Co. I don''t know anything about S & CO so maybe I am better off with WF.
Yep... happy also with the band. It's about 2mm, maybe just under. The shank of the setting is a bit graduated... about 1.9 mm from the bands to 2.2-2.3 where the petals join. I prefer a more delicate look though, and like the thinner band. Also, the point of one of the petals hits the band, no matter what (unless, I suppose, you find a ring with a very accentuated curve). I'm always a little concerned that it'll scratch the band or vice versa, concerned about the wear also. All seems fine in that sense as well. It may be that I wear the vatche alone a fair amount of time, though.
Oh, I also had the semi-mount made and had the diamond set locally. The setting can be made to fit a diamond of a relatively significant size. The ring they sent me to try on had a diamond a little over 2 carats.
my band is a 6, the ring is a 6.5. The band does tend to stay central, and the ring slips around a little, especially on cold days. (I need to go in and have the ring sized down a bit, but because I wear the ring alone a bit, it hasn''t been that pressing an issue for me.) I should probably have them both sized to 6.25 and that would be just right.
p.s. I''m happy to help, I''m thrilled to finally be able to answer someone''s questions on this forum!!!
Its good to know the band sits still! Maybe I would need to go a little bit down in size as I have funny fingers. My knuckles are big but the bit where rings sit is thin. I don''t mind shoving the band over my knuckle if it means it will sit nicely.
I know what you mean about having someone to help. My posts are usually limited to telling someone how lovely their new bling is! I have tried to understand the mathematics of diamonds, but I just don''t get how the numbers work.
I can enjoy nice jewellery though! Don''t need maths for that!
