Hi Kenny,

In another thread you has posted a pic of your Octavia and your gloves.
I have a question- from that pic it seems that the culet would be close to your finger and you would feel the culet. Does the pressure from wearing the gloves push the ring such that the culet touches your skin?

As u know, I am trying for a lower tension setting and therefore trying to understand the setting as much as I can.

Thanx.

I'm just chiming in hoping that Kenny will respond with more (or new!!) pics of his Octavia. So beautiful.

Bumping up, hoping Kenny sees this.

Oh, Hello! :wavey:

Greg, I think you are looking for a black and white answer but it's just gray.
I understand you want the ring to be as low-profile as possible.
I don't blame you; I do too.

But there is no single clearance in mm between the skin and the culet that will prevent the culet from ever touching the skin while keeping the skin 0.0000000001 mm from the culet.
Too many variables.
People's skin varies, some tight and others loose and wrinkly.
Amount of fat in the fingers varies.
High temperature causes swelling and low temp causes shrinkage just like … oh never mind.
Water retention causes swelling.
The wider the gap the less skin can bulge up into the gap … hence the design of my ring (the gap has parallel sides) is not as effective in preventing culet/skin contact as Steven Kretchmer's design because Kretchmer's gap is more narrow at the skin than at the diamond's girdle.

Ring makers must take this all into account and make a decision.
I assume they assume worst case and make the gap extra large so culet never touches skin in any person under any circumstances.
Unfortunately this results in rings that sit up higher than some of us prefer.

Talk to Bruce Boone.
I'd email that pic I posted of the side view of my Octavia ring with the ruler on it to Bruce Boone and ask him to just make the culet a bit lower.
I'd also ask if he can taper the gap like Keretchmer does.

BTW, the ring in that Speedo glove pic was with my former asscher, not the Octavia.

Thanks Liaerfbv.
I'll try to get some new pics up when I can make some time; I'm very slow.
I have some new camera gear I'm anxious to test drive.

THanx Kenny, for your advice. :appl: :appl:

I am sending another email to Bruce now. :read:

How is that chrome cobalt ring- is that still the same as when you first got it? The brushed/ satin look is still intact, and the shiny finish on the bars on the edges the same?

Yes.
So far, so good.
