We're setting FI's wedding band as a sapphire tension set. We want to imbed a stone into the setting, but Bruce (boonerings.com) cannot do that with titanium. Which metal would be better 14kt white gold or platinum?
He's not the most careful with his hands, but he'd be careful with it, but I doubt he'd baby it otherwise it would never be worn. Should we "fake" the tension and get a bar to go beneath?

I have very little expertise in metal choice but I once met one of the men who runs Gelin Abaci.

IIRC he told me 14K gold is the strongest of all their alloys since it has the lowest percentage of precious metal.
It is the other metals in their alloys that are the strong ones.

That is what I would do.
The difference between titanium and 14k or plat in toughness and holding power is night and day.

Thanks for your response, Kenny. That's really good to know! My e-ring is 14k, but prong set.

Thank you for your response, Karl. If we go the "bar" route, which metal would you recommend? 14k or Plat?

Either one will be fine.
I like 14k x1 if I can get it.
