I just purchased a ring that was quoted as being a ruby or synthetic as it shown some fluorescence under black light. Its 10k...she said it was an older setting from 1900's. What is everyone's guess? Is it a real ruby? :pray:thank you all!

I think it looks like synthetic or rubellite tourmaline.

Man made rubies have been around well over 100 years so being “old” doesn’t mean it’s likely to be natural.
Natural rubies are worth a lot of money, people who sell them who even think they might be natural will get a report to confirm it and sell it for thousands.
So unless it comes with a report saying it’s a natural ruby, it’s 99.99% of the time a man made ruby, same chemical composition, same look, but made in a lab for a few dollars a piece.
Nothing wrong with lab rubies, still lovely, as long as you only paid a few dollars for the gem (in a gold ring maybe $100 / $150 tops).
