I''m a newbie who greatly benefited from this site and ended up with a great 3 stone engagement ring. All my research and knowledge is on round brilliants. My friend just proposed and is now in the market for a 2 carat princess cut. It will be set in white gold or platinum. It must be eye clean and they have budgeted about $10K for the stone. Time is somewhat of the essence as they would like to have it on her finger within two weeks (visiting the parents). Any input and/or leads from princess experts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I took a quick glance at the Pricescope search and it looks like they're going to have to sacrifice a bit to get a 2 carat princess for $10K. Are they okay with an I color? That doensn't even take cut quality into consideration.

I believe they are very practical on this decision. She saw a 2 carat princess cut at a local jeweler (set) for $15,000 that she loved. She wants 2 carats but understands 1.9 will cost less and look 2. She wants eye clean which could be SI2 if it is really eye clean. As far as color she just doesn't want it to be yellow. I am the one that is preaching cut quality over everything, but all my research was on round brilliants so I am of little help on this all important parameter in their decision. I also mentioned that she might want to look at other "square" styles like emerald, radiant and jubilee. $10K is a rough budget, they could and would spend more if it visually made a difference.

Hope this helps,
Mike

I have no trouble recommending this stone from GOG, although it's a bit under 2 ct.... I'll keep looking & see if anything else looks interesting...
