Hi Pricescopers!

It's time for me to start putting together my engagement ring and I got so excited that I busted my budget and purchased a JBEG stone on impulse. Now am having serious cold feet about making such a quick purchase! Any feedback you have on the stone would be greatly appreciated! Can't wait to see my first OEC in person!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you all for sharing your knowledge!

Is this for yourself? I think it will be good if you can order 2 or 3 to see various styles of OEC's before you decide. This one has a really low crown angle, and one of the things I love about OEC's is the high crown. It also has a pretty large table for an OEC. So I am not sure this one would be one of my top choices, although it looks pretty! I would also say that you'd have to be sure you are comfortable with M color and the only way to know is to look at some various color stones.

Thanks diamondseeker and miss bliss! The stone is for me! I'm comfortable with the warmth of an M, but am also very nervous about the low crown angle and large table. Though I don't have a good handle on how those may affect the performance.

I'm also open to looking for another stone if anyone has seen something appealing out there! I'm looking for greater than 1.75 ct, eye clean, not lower than O/P color and <11k.

Thank you PS for introducing me to old world cuts!

Butting in but I am trying to understand OECs myself. What is a 'good' crown angle on an OEC? What about a good table?

Thanks! not trying to steal your post ,just understand.

It has a lovely flowery pattern under the table and I love those petals in an OEC. But a big table... I would get it and see what it looks like in real life, sometimes OECs will surprise you!

That diamond has a lovely later make. I would call it an early ideal cut, in the same ilk as my own diamond and Demelza's and others. Set that puppy in a bezel to make the arrows and contrast pop. I love it, but I am biased to this style of old cut!

I think it is absolutely beautiful and in the perfect old cut color - M :) I think the facets are wonderful - love the flower petals.

Thanks everyone for your input! The diamond had arrived, but I haven't seen it yet. More pics to come! It does have the beautiful petal pattern, so hopefully the large table won't throw the look or performance off.

Dreamer, thanks for the bezel suggestion. I'm going to try it tonight using the cardboard around the girdle method to see how the contrast looks. Your ring is am absinthe dream and stunning. I frequently admire it! You totally got my with your April fool's joke of selling it by the way!

I would love to do a milgrain bezel or eight prong setting, but with how much we went over budget for the stone I may do a very simple setting for a few years!

Thanks everyone, it's great to hear what you think!

*Edit to answer Ming* I forgot about your question. Crown angle and table size are personal preference. Some people want a classic OEC profile with the ring pop look where the top of the stone above the girdle looks full a bit like a bubble. To get that look you need a high crown angle and small table. The high crown angle also seems to correspond to more fire much of the time, though it's stone specific since all the stats work together for light return. Eeekkk I hope that was at least a little helpful. Hopefully the experts will jump in if I gave you any wrong info!

I think it looks beautiful despite the bigger table.

Thanks for explaining that. I've seen a few OECs in real life but not enough to really understand the differences and what I prefer. I was thinking there was something wrong with the proportions of the stone that you are evaluating.

Ming, I don't know if you are still considering the 2.1 M with good old gold. If you are I posted a link to a video of it in your thread about that stone! Happy stone hunting!
