i'm helping my mom to set her 2.62 E IF RB diamond into a harry winston inspired halo ring ... she really likes the exact look of the HW micropave frame and shank, so no other types of halo will be considered...

with these requirements, which vendor would you prefer :

- Mark T at ERD (worried that it will look too generic?)
- Maytal Hannah (inspired by charmypoo's ring, top choice at the moment)
- Leon Mege (worried that it may be set way too low, long production time?)

i went to Harry Winston yesterday on 5th Avenue and saw a 2.51 ct cushion halo and i am so in love with the delicate and elegant pave halo, size and finger coverage, i really think my mom would love it ...

what i'm concerned with right now :

- under incandescent lighting, ideal cut RB stones tend to turn into a ball of "grayish" stone with tons of fire wile the smaller melee diamonds stay "white and bright", is this really the case? will this deter the overall beauty of the ring?

- is the pave halo usually of the same "width" as the shank? i remember charmypoo's ring shank is 1.5mm, wondering if the halo is also 1.5mm in width? planning to have the ring shank be 1.8mm...

- is the HW micropave set in v-cut pave or cut down pave ?

a couple of looks i am liking right now :

this one (but with all white diamond halo) :

and this one , love the very delicate halo frame (but with single row pave shank) :

please feel free to chime in with opinions / suggestions and photos as well !

I would add Jewels By Erica Grace and Brian Gavin Diamonds to the list as both make really great CAD/CAST versions of that ring. Call all the vendors and get quotes and see how you feel. Maytal and Leon are hand made which will look much more refined than a CAD/cast ring but will cost more usually. Its up to you. I would probably work with Maytal if funds allowed, thought Charmy, who owns both Maytal and Leon peices, I think mentioned that Leon's pave was unequalled.

It is the nature of diamond optics and part of the beauty, it wil not deter in my opinion

These are details I would leave to the master who makes your ring. But my guess is that the halo would be smaller melee than the shank since the halo does not need a certain width for strength.

Not sure, maybe someone else will know. Who cares, though, I would get whichever you think is more lovely since only you will notice a detail like that -- unless you want to fool people, but I think owning a hand made ring by Maytal or Leon is much more special than a HW generic so would not personally bother trying to fool.

Re: CALLING ALL HALO EXPERTS - HALO SETTING FOR MY MOM'S 2.6

The HW microspave uses v-cut pave to my understanding.

My halo is just under 1mm as I didn't want a thick halo. Many of the designers and others on the forum like a wider halo but I like a more delicate halo and didn't want the extra finger coverage. I am very selective and had requirements down to the mm and Maytal was able to execute it to my exact specification. I was very inspired by the HW micropave setting but liked the profile view of Leon's design better. I have no regrets with my choices for this particular ring. If you tell Maytal that you want a ring just like mine, she now has the experience to make something like it but she will warn you that it may be "dangerous". I had zero issues so far after owning this ring for around half a year (I only wear it when I go out).

I see the differences between a CAD/CAST piece versus a fully handmade piece. As such, I can't put Mark's rings in the same class but would certainly use him for some projects. Leon does excellent pave work especially with his 3 sided pave - however, if you search this forum you will see the concerns others have raised around working with him. Further, Leon tends to make his rings as low as possible which not everyone loves. Suggest that you also contact Ocean Pearlman - she creates CADs but handmakes the ring (neither Maytal or Leon do this).

Leon and Maytal's turnaround time is almost the same.

thankyou so much for all the insight, it's truly helpful !

Dreamer, i agree with you that the ring shouldn't be for the purpose of fooling others into thinking that it is an HW, it should have somewhat a unique character as well ! right now HW is a great "standard" to go off with since i know my mom does not want a 3-sided pave halo or bezel halo or any other types.... =)

charmy, thankyou so much for your advice ! it's truly helpful to know that Maytal is a great designer... and i agree that i am a little iffy on LM at the moment as he is known to be partial to low set rings (which i don't personally love) ...

just came across Bez Ambar's rings online and saw this amazing setting... it reminds me of my Michael B Paris ring but with a halo !

if i were to choose this setting a couple of things i would change is to turn it into single prong, and to completely minimize the amount of visible metal on the halo from top down (so the diamonds on the halo would directly "touch" the center stone so to speak) if i am making myself clear...

Re: CALLING ALL HALO EXPERTS - HALO SETTING FOR MY MOM'S 2.6

Hi!
I also need help with my HALO pave ring!

Ok so I have a radiant micro pave halo ring and I LOVE it. Just got engaged on Thanksgiving, but we designed the ring with our local jeweler who is a great jeweler.
The only thing I would like to have him change regarding this ring is the HALO part. I gave him photos of the Harry Winston halo ring, and a lot of the same pictures posted on this thread in regards to the HALO. Now my ring, I wanted it to sit very low and be able to sit flush with other bands, so that part is completely different than the HW halo ring overall but I wanted the halo part to look exactly like the HW or the Kylie from Erica Grace, but It seems to look a little different

Can ANY of you please help me with the terminology or what you think I could tell him to change to make it look more like these halo's? He stresses his concern on the melee falling out if he were to scoop too much metal on the "U" cuts, but I am thinking that the problem is I have the U cuts but I dont have the V cuts between each little melee, and I'm wondering if that's what would make the difference.. He has talked about shaving more of the halo metal part underneath down, but I don't think that's whats going to make the top of the small diamonds look different... I think where the issue lies is that there is more metal between each diamond.. But any and all thoughts you guys have would help!

Any and all advice regarding the halo part and what I would be able to tell him and his goldsmith what to do would be great.
Any thoughts on fishtail pave?

CAN SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO UPLOAD PICS ON HERE? I'm new to Pricescope and don't know how to do it and it keeps saying upload fail?! And won't let me upload any to it.. Sorry I'm so new to this site but want to show you guys the ring so you can help : )
