CALLING ALL HALO EXPERTS - HALO SETTING FOR MY MOM'S 2.62ct

i'm helping my mom to set her 2.62 E IF RB diamond into a harry winston inspired halo ring ... she really likes the exact look of the HW micropave frame and shank, so no other types of halo will be considered...

with these requirements, which vendor would you prefer :

- Mark T at ERD (worried that it will look too generic?)
- Maytal Hannah (inspired by charmypoo's ring, top choice at the moment)
- Leon Mege (worried that it may be set way too low, long production time?)

i went to Harry Winston yesterday on 5th Avenue and saw a 2.51 ct cushion halo and i am so in love with the delicate and elegant pave halo, size and finger coverage, i really think my mom would love it ...

what i'm concerned with right now :

- under incandescent lighting, ideal cut RB stones tend to turn into a ball of "grayish" stone with tons of fire wile the smaller melee diamonds stay "white and bright", is this really the case? will this deter the overall beauty of the ring?

- is the pave halo usually of the same "width" as the shank? i remember charmypoo's ring shank is 1.5mm, wondering if the halo is also 1.5mm in width? planning to have the ring shank be 1.8mm...

- is the HW micropave set in v-cut pave or cut down pave ?

please feel free to chime in with opinions / suggestions and photos as well !

Hi, I also have a round brilliant very close in size to your mom's (3ct). I decided to go with a halo that's not the same shape as the center stone, in my case my center is a round and the halo is a cushion. I think otherwise you would need to go with a cushion for a center stone to imitate the look you're going for. The band part of my ring is probably closer to 2mm in size and I believe the pave is set in what's called 2 prong setting which sets the stones closer together, where you see less metal between them. I'm not exactly sure what type of pave Harry Winston uses but it's definitely not the 2 prong that I have on my ring. Anyway my ring was made by Victor Canera. I think the band part of the ring should probably be about the same thickness as the halo. A lot of this really depends on the discretion of the designer and their experience in making these rings. I'm attaching a pic of my ring and good luck.

thanks so much for your advice ! gorgeous ring by the way !

my mom would actually like to have a round micropave frame for the round diamond, the result she wants would be as if HW would make the same micro pave setting but for a round stone ...

so something like this by LM but with a white diamond halo :

this one looks amazing too with a very thin and delicate halo frame like the HW one ... the shank will have to change to just one single row of pave ...

I've never had rings made by either Leon or Maytal but at least you know they both make rings to almost exactly match what your mother likes. Charmypoo's ring is just gorgeous!

I guess you'll have to contact both of them to ask your specific questions. I'm sure between the two you'll find what she wants. Since she is very specific about how she wants it to look, I doubt you'd find a ready made ring to put her stone in. With a 2.62 round brillant, I wouldn't image she would want a large halo around it - just something fine and subtle to add that extra bling!

Let us know what you decide!

thanks MGR ! a thin pave halo is what i'm thinking too !

i was exploring rings on "timeless Luxury" or "art of pave" and saw this amazing one ... wondering if any PS'ers have had rings made by them?
