I got volunteered to bake a cake for a colleague who's being promoted. I made an olive-oil peach upside-down cake.

What are your favorite cakes to make?

Grocery store - seriously, I'm a loser here. But my mother (Mya) used to make a lemon sheet cake, then poke the top with a fork before pouring a cooked sweet thin frosting that had grated lemon peel. It was elegant. Like Mya.

Mine Wifey doesn't make me cakes anymore since my diabetes got bad and she also has it. Both under control thankfully! It eliminates a lot of cake however :{
Here is a German chocolate cake she made around 2010.
One of my favorite cakes ever!

I only make one recipe in two different formats, a 5min Madeira cake with added chopped placed cherries and white chocolate chips, finished with a drizzle of icing sugar and glitter sugar or sprinkles, in either 1lb loaf or as fairy cupcakes.

DK :))

Back in the 1970s, I often made a cake in a Bundt pan for my family that was the last word in 70s: boxed yellow cake mix, package of instant vanilla pudding, eggs, and lots of poppyseeds. My brothers, ever hopeful, called it opium cake.

It was really pretty good for mix up packages with eggs. Convenience foods, sigh.

I feel like @Daisys and Diamonds may have something to say on the subject of cakes. Am I right?

i havnt baked in 3 plus years since i went to work at the bakery
also my oven isnt the greatest
but i do male a nice banana peacan and carrot cake that iis heavy on cinnamon so i cant see the carrot !
and durring the pandemic i make the UK's lemon drizzle cake which i found by googerling what can i do with lots of lemons ! it must have been after we were able to get flour (shortage of flour bags held the country to randsom) and baking powder

i learnt to use wholemwel flour -you can use 1/3 brown to any white four recepie but you have to sift it 3 times and i got the last box of cream of tata in the shop to use with baking soda, i had been using lemon juice
and i was making bear bread as it didnt need yeast, that was quite nice but not a cake !!

This is gorgeous. Wish I could still eat this sort of thing.

IMG_20250628_144040471.jpgI wanted to share a cake my mom made for my Grandmother's 96th birthday. This is her high school senior picture that we had colorized. Very proud of my matriarch.

I love to make a centerpiece cake for the holidays. This one is my chocolate and peanut butter tuxedo cake complete with PB buckeye bonbons. Hubby’s favorite.

She did. There were just shy of 100 people at her party and she was the Belle of the ball. You can't tell by this picture, but the cake took 2 people to carry in it was so big!

Cake is my favorite food group

I'm preparing to bake gluten-free fruitcake for Christmas. A friend shared her recipe from last year, and I soooo hope mine turns out just as delicious. :kiss2:

The GF Christmas/fruit cake is sooooo delicious! The goal was to leave it until mid December, and taste it then. I've failed in that goal...miserably. Fortunately, there are three cakes, one of which is just a tad smaller than the others, now.
