I'm in the process of getting my band made by the same person who made my ering. eternitybyyoni.com sent over the CAD. Once of my most important request was to make sure that the band shows the curvatures of each diamond (kind of like it's floating) instead of creating a straight band.

When I spoke with Yoni he said there's still some small metal between each diamond area and I'm curious to know if this is a big enough issue to fuss about? He said that reducing the metal further would make the diamond more vulnerable since it'll be even more exposed.

Do you think with this CAD that I'd be able to get the results that I'm looking for? I also sent over the attached image of what I like and don't like about specific u prong eternity bands. To me it does look like the diamonds would look individualized/floating with the curvature.

Thoughts are appreciated as he's waiting for my green light before it goes to production.

I would have to be able to read the directions you posted in order to see if the CADs meet your requirements. And I can't.

I can't see the difference in the yes and no images either except that one is lower set than the other.

So... bigger pictures are a necessity. With larger font.

Yikes! I guess my file got resized. Do you know how I can share the full size file?

Here's another one (hopefully bigger) of my biggest concern which is making sure the diamond prone/setting is done in a way where you see the curves of the diamond instead of the prongs/setting making it look like just a standard band from top view. eternity_band_top_view.jpg

Okay. No, the CAD won't give you that look. The prongs need to be moved in more for the scalloped look you want.

And honestly, if you want a scalloped look that isn't the best design at all. Quite the oppposite.

Have you seen the Memoire Purity collection?

I originally asked two vendors for a scalloped version of the u prong and was tols by both that moving yhe prongs of the u prong inward would not make for a secure setting and was not viable. I decided to go for a shared prong with prongs closer to center since with yhat setting the pinched in prongs would not reduce security

Do you happen to have a photo of the birds eye and side view so that I can see? I would sooo appreciate it! Been stressing out about this!

Hi Gypsy!
I just took a look at it. It looks like this is atrue floating diamond ring (http://www.memoire.com/shop/mpsp1-0325mpl9z65/#sthash.zY98lA1O.dpbs), but it doesnt have the exposed diamond look on the side. I also don't have the prong in the middle to be separating the diamonds completely (if that makes sense).

I really wanted the uternity band :( Any other suggestions?

Does your ring happen to look like amgal's HW ring?

Hello! I'm not an expert like the rest of these ladies but I wanted to mention that I've been researching for a five stone ring and came across the same issue. I love the curvature/scalloped look of the diamond look AND also the side profile of the U prong setting. However, it seems like it's not possible to achieve both looks in the same setting. To move the prongs inward to show the curvature would cause the diamonds to be at risk. So the vendors I've talked to recommended the basket look (can be closed or not) similar to the images provided. However, if the side profile is more important to you, then the U prong open look will appear more like a straight band from the top view. In essence, I think it is deciding whether the top view or the side view is more important. I still haven't decided myself!

I know this doesn't quite help but I thought I would at least comment that it's not the specific vendor that you are working with. It's nice in some way for a vendor to be direct and make sure you don't lose your stones in the future! Good luck and can't wait to see what you decide.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am so torn. I think both are important ! haha :(

here's the new CAD sent by Yoni to make it look more scalloped. uternity_cad_2.jpg

I'm leaning towards just going with the first CAD (where it'll look a bit straighter) because I think the side profile is really unique.

Hi susiecee,
Just curious, what is the difference in the profile between the first and second CAD?

Examples of scalloped u-prong eternity bands:
jabresch's IDJ eternity:

Whether there ended up being durability issues, we are not sure since jabresch has not updated her thread to ringsearching's recent question. Since ringsearching seems to be also looking for the same kind of eternity band, you may consider starting a thread to ask about her experience.

wintotty also has a scalloped u-ternity by IDJ:

DBL makes a scalloped u-prong eternity with rectangular holes:
http://www.diamondsbylauren.com/index.php/jewelry/diamond-ring-411ctw-g-h-si-round-brilliant-diamond-wedding-band-r6202

In all the scalloped u-prong eternity bands above, there seems to be a slight gap between each diamond girdle. I do not know if this is avoidable; if you find out, please share that info. The gap does not seem to be as visible in other types of eternity bands.
Yssie's WF ACA u-prong eternity (not scalloped):
