Hi there- when looking at rings from Tiffany (Lucida cut), do I still need to look at the measurements of various stones or are they all excellent? For instance if two different Lucidas have different angles, is that something I should try and make sense of to see if one is "better" than the other? Thanks for answering my silly question!

Hopefully Bee will chime in she has a Tiffany Lucida stone. Welcome to Pricescope!

When buying at a place like Tiffany''s, with a totally patented cut like the lucida, *my* recommendation is to just go with your eyes. No fancy stones really have exact categories they must fit into like round stones do. So just go with what looks best to you.

ditto neatfreak. I have a lucida which I got last July. I told them the rough specs that I wanted and they ordered in quite a few of them for me and I picked which one I loved the most. Make sure that they take you over to the windows so that you can see them in natural light.

I will agree and add to that NF:

1. look in other lights - tiffany (and many big box stores like walmart, costco and sams clubs) have very high ceilings with numerous strong lights a long way up. This makes any clean diamond look great.
2. If you can go to the window and have daylight (never direct sun light) and shield the other lights with your body then try that.
3. hold the stones under the counter or a chair with as little light as possible.
4. if you feel comfortable taking an ideal-scope ($25) with you, you will without doubt get the best rounds, or an ASET scope ($50) for lucida and all fancies.
5. if you have a friends diamond or other similar sized stone that you know is well cut, then clean it and take it along as a comp stone.

Wow, thanks for all the great suggestions, I will pass these along to my guy so he can surprise me!
