I haven't been on in a while, but now I have to finalize my choice for the ring. I have a little over a month. I want to order the ring once it hits November, and propose mid January.

The ring I want is the 2.1mm Timeless Diamond Solitaire Setting from JamesAllen:

My only issue is I am having trouble deciding yellow gold or white gold.
Here are all my options and issues with each options
The diamond will be a .5-.6 carat, H/I color, SI1 clarity

All yellow gold (as shown on pictures):
-I saw this ring in person and loved how it looked, I didn't have a problem with how it looked being completely yellow. But, the jeweler said that he thought it'd be a good idea to do the head in white gold so it is more secure because he said Yellow Gold is less secure.
-Same as above but with Rhodium plated tips. This option was given to me by someone from JamesAllen. It wouldn't be any more secure, it would be just so the yellow doesn't reflect onto the diamond.
-Would this reflect onto the diamond and make it appear yellow?

Yellow gold with white gold basket
-There would be no way for me to see what this looks like on the ring without me ordering it. I am not opposed to other rings that have that combination, but I would like to see what it looks like on this particular ring.

All white gold
-She doesn't have any white gold jewelery so i am not sure if her skin type is the type that'd cause the need for it to be replated every so often. I wouldn't want her to have a ring that'd be a hassle if her skin type doesn't react well with it.

Unplated white gold
-Wouldn't have to worry about replating it, but haven't seen too much of what it looks like

Would you be very considered about the security of the prongs if it is all yellow gold (whether the tips are plated or not)?

Sorry if I have asked these questions a bunch of times before, but I figure I would start over now and go from here.

Thanks for all the help, hopefully this takes away some worries about it

Scratch all that was said in the previous post after seeing 18k White Gold 0.30ctw Common Prong Diamond Engagement Ring.

One question for anyone who would know...
The sidestones are all G-H and I plan on getting an I center stone. Would that cause the center stone to look less white? Should I go up to a G or H center stone? That'd be tough on my budget

You''ll be fine. The general rule is to keep center and side stones within two color grades of each other.

My fiance''s ring is an I center and G sides and you can''t tell any difference in color.

Thank you so much. That''s great to hear

I have been thinking round cut the whole time, but I also really like cushions.
I know that GOG have really good ones but I can''t afford them, but what about JamesAllen? For a $1000 and under could I get a good half carat cushion from JA?

In addition to the last question I had...

The setting I am now looking at here I think is a pave setting. Correct me if I am wrong. I have read on here a bunch of problems regarding the diamonds falling out. Is this a very common problem? Should this not be a ring for someone who would want to wear it 24/7?

This is a common prong setting. If the ring is bent, there will be a chance of a melee popping out.

Cushion is a hit and miss, you will have to go through a lot of stones to find a good one, unless it is something like GOG signature round.

I didn''t have any idea what common prong was, but know I know that there is a difference between that and pave. Is common prong a safe setting for everyday wear 24/7?

Common prongs means a prong will hold down 2 stones, so if bend out of shape more likely a stone will comes loose. Also depends on workmanship of the piece.

I have 2 pave rings, one was a gift from 2+ yrs ago, no loose stones. Another is my ER band, which I received 9 months ago.

No stones have fallen out yet. I think if you go with a reputable vendor/jeweller you should be fine!

If you want a bigger diamond go with J, SI2. I know everyone has a different opinion, but there are some really stunning J SI2s. I know some people start to see the warmth in J but I suggest you go to the jewelry and actually look at an excellent cut J, it will still look very white for most? people, at least to me. I am no diamond expert, and I am not sure what your budget is but consider these.

J, SI2 for 1200

J SI2 .9 for 2000

It does depend on your girlfriends preferences, but most girls I know want at least around 1 kt for their engagment ring. And I think you can still do this without sacrificing the beauty of the diamond or your budget.

I am now considering the legato from WF as well. I was wondering if anyone knows of anyone having the legato with a cushion. I tried looking and couldn't find it.

edit: link to legato
