Hello,

I have been reading this forum and have found some wonderful information. So much information, its a little overwhelming. I am looking to buy a used engagement ring. The ring I have in mind would rang in wt from .5-.99 CT, Princes cut, Sl2 or better clarity and H or better color. White gold would be preferred for a band.

Can anyone direct me where I should look for this type of used ring?

When I find it, can I post its information so someone can help me determine if the price is fair?

If I understand correctly I should really only but diamonds evaluated by the GIA?

Thanks in advance fro your help.

You previously mentioned $2200 in another post about a particular ring. Is that your budget?

It would be nice to stay below 2,200 but I could do a little more if I need to.

Thanks for responding so quickly. I really appreciate it.

Idontwantit doesn't give you enough information to know if you are getting ripped off or not. Try loupe troop or diamond bistro.

Are there any other places I can look at preowned engagement rings?

eBay... "But"and this is a BIG but.. Post your budget and let some of the experienced PSers look for you. Only buy from eBayer's with positive feedback and ones that allow returns.

Sorry just saw your budget up above. My apologies. Hopefully some folks will weigh in

Thanks for all your help.. This site is very useful. I would like to keep it around 2,000 but can go higher if needed.

Sheet, I liked that one a lot too ! Now I am a newbie myself but I have been listening and learning from the experts here so what I CAN tell you is that AGS grading is the crown prince, the M.I.T, the holy grail of grading and that once a stone is declared AGS you should have no worries. AGS is the ONLY grading where the experts here say you don't even need to worry about ideal scopes or assets or anything, you are paying a premium for that guarantee.

Now, I have bought my rings off e-bay and had nothing but great experiences, but of course could they be advertising this stone as an AGS and they swapped it out for a piece of rock salt ? Sure, that's why you need to look at the e-bay store or sellers feedback score and make SURE they have an ironclad return policy. I got my rings appraised and they were what the sellers claimed, so I never had to fight a return.

I think that's a lovely ring for a great price as long as the things I mentioned above are in play. I TRULY hope on of the experts ( Like Gypsy who linked that ring) will come back and verify that I am not mistaken !

Good luck, you have come to the right place !

Thanks so much for all the helpful information. You guys are great! The ring does a return policy is 14 day return(buyer pays shipping and insurance).. The feedback listed is 100%!! I will wait for the experts to chime back in.. I hope its soon, the sale ends in 9.5hrs!!

Thanks again for all the help!!

I wouldn't have posted it if it was a high risk choice. Just ask if the SI is eyeclean.

Best advice is get it, take it to an appraiser ASAP after you get it: https://www.pricescope.com/appraisers

Make sure the appraiser is independent one, not affiliated with any retail sales place (not everyone on that list is, but most are).

Don't mention ebay. Just say that it is a pre-owned piece, and that you have a return policy and you want to make sure it matches what you bought (lab report, etc.) and that the condition is good.

Also, it's always worth sending an email and asking if the price is firm or slightly negotiable. If they say it is negotiable, it doesn't hurt to ask for 5-10% or so off on this one (but the price is quite reasonable, so if it's a no, that's fine too). If that's too much for them, they'll tell you.

I got it for $2,350! Thanks for the help. I will keep you posted

Great. Don't forget the appraisal. Make sure the diamond matches the lab report and that you got what you paid for.

:appl: :appl: :appl: nice find Gypsy!!

Buying a princess cut pre loved might be difficult as they just aren't popular at the moment. I would look into IDJ and JA to see if they can find you something that is eye clean in your budget. When shapes aren't popular I have noticed that you just don't see them for sale on the secondary market has most ppl would take a crushing lost. Taste and trends though are cylical so they hold onto them till they gain in popularity. Just look at cushions and the marqusis!

Sorry I'm not more help. If you wanted a MRB or an OEC I could suggest a few ebay links but I'm not confident in knowing princess cuts at all to help.

"send email and make an offer" to an ebay seller: IF there is NO BEST OFFER enabled on the auction, it's actually against ebay policy to make an offer. Sure, people do it all the time, but generally if the seller is experienced and the seller wants offers, the seller has enabled Best Offer on the listing, with a range of values that will be automatically accepted, rejected, or tabled 48 hours while the buyer considers them. There are many ebay sellers, and I am one, that if a buyer gets pushy and sends me unsolicited offers (especially with a rude attitude), we report that buyer to ebay and also put him/her on our blocked bidder lists. ebay might not do much to that buyer, but many sellers work under multiple IDs and/or share BBLs with their friends. The philosophy is that if you have a troublesome or unpleasant buyer before a sale, they may cause trouble after the sale, so just block them. ebay brought that on with all of the policy revisions that favor crooked buyers and expose the sellers to losses.

I took my new ring to a jewler in KY and they recommend they send the ring off to a gemologist. It takes a about a week to get it back. Should I do that or let them look at the ring with the paperwork? The list of appraisers above do not include any in KY.

What is the return policy? Will you still be able to return it if after a week is doesn't measure up?
