Buying a diamond and setting online, mounting locally??

I am goning to get a diamond and setting in different vendor, but don't want to send the stone to be mounted by mail. So I am thinking to get them mount in local jewelry store.
Would it work? Anyone did before? I am not sure if they would like to do it and how much usually cost. The setting is a 4-prong classic solitaire in platuim, stone is 1ct.

It really depends on the vendor. I would call around and VERY REPUTABLE jewelers with IN HOUSE BENCHES (do work on site, don't send out) and find out what the prices are.

It's very common to bring a loose stone to a Jeweler for mounting. Just make sure you get the same stone back by checking on the cert number inscription or inclusion on the stone .

Also make sure the stone is insured. A lot of B&Ms wont insure it because you didnt buy it through them.
