PLEASE HELP! I need some advice! I am possibly purchasing a 3.12 ct Box cut radiant brilliant. Here are the dimensions according to a Mega Scope Report: Width: 8.35. Length: 8.62. L/W: 1.03. Crown Angle: 33.5, Crown Height 11.3, Pavil Angle: 43.6, Pavil Depth: 47.3, Table Size: 63.0., Tota Depth: 59.6/4.98mm. Proportion is excellent, Clarity is VS1, Color is I(1), No Fluorescence. According to their "Appraisal": Polish is Very Good, Symmetry is Very Good, Culet: None, Girle: Thin to Medium: .7 - 1.0, No Fluorescence. The price that the jeweler is asking is $34,400. Is this worth that much? I am slightly uncomfortable with the I color and according to the some of the angles it is a class 2 stone and not a class 1 stone, no? Please tell me frankly what you think!
I am also trying to sll my first ring. It is a 2.28 ct princess cut (Square modified brilliant). According to my GIA report it is: measurements: 7.22x7.01x5.19. Weight 2.28 ct, Depth: 74.0%, Table: 67%, Girdle: Slightly thick to thick, Culet: Very Small, Polish: Very Good, Symmetry: Good, Calrity Grade: VS1, Fluorescence: None. They are telling me this is a "chubby" because of its depth and that it is therefore a class "4"!!! stone. They will put it out to bid if I like with about 15 consolidators (I think that is what they said) and tell me what the best price they can get for it is. And no one I know wants to buy it! So, on this stone my questions are: What should I reasonabley expect to be able to get for the stone, what is it actually worth retail and wholesale? I read that I should expect atleast 60-80% of the wholesale value. Can anyone give me any idea of what those numbers might be?
I can''t make a decision about any of this till I get some advice! I used to work for Consumer Reports!

Welcome to PS!

Firstly, Radiants are very tricky to judge by the numbers, they really have to be seen to be evaluated. If this isn't possible, see if the vendor has a photograph and an ASET image would be very useful along with an Idealscope image if they have one. Also Radiants show colour more than many other shapes, this is the reason you see so many fancy colours cut into Radiants, in such a large diamond an I may show some colour. Check the vendor has a good return policy in case the diamond doesn't fit the bill. Also you can use the Pricescope your diamond tool at the top of the page to check and compare pricing of similar.

Regarding resale of your other diamond, unfortunately it is usual to get back 50% or less of what you paid, I will post a page in a moment which may be helpful regarding pricing and sale- reselling jewellery

Thank you very much. That was very helpful. I can''t seem to find many stones with that low a depth. Is that something I should be concerned about in a radiant? (i.e. the total depth is 59.6)

You might want to check w/the vendors if they would take your ring for a trade in http://www.pricescope.com/dealers.asp
I think someone posted on here that Good Old Gold did that if I remember correctly. Vey exciting and I love Consumer Reports!

Welcome! CR people would do well here as there are plenty of researcher-types here!

My advice is to slow down. I''d call Jonathan at Good Old Gold and have him search his suppliers'' radiant inventory and maybe call you in a couple to compare to the one you are looking at. He just made this great video to show someone else a couple of stones:

I don''t think he does trades, but Pearlman''s does do consignment. Perhaps you could get at least wholesale that way.

Also, does the diamond you are interested in have a GIA or AGS cert? If not, there''s no telling about the true color and clarity. I''d stick with GIA if it were me.

you have already been given some great advice and all the vendors mentioned are wonderful.

pearlman''s will do trades along with consignment so you might do ok going that route too.
