Thinking about a Mother's Ring / Family Ring and wanted your input. As I was perusing the Royal Jewels thread, I came across this ring and I can't get it off my mind. I know, I know , I can't have the royal jewels, but has anyone seen a ring like this before? I just love the scale and weight of the piece. (if you remember, I have chunky size 8 3/4 finger)

I would be using Amethyst, Peridot and Blue Topaz (Feb, Aug, Dec) I also like the Leon Mege three stone bezel set piece.
I think these stones would look better set in yellow gold? THoughts on this? I really don't want it to look like the traditional mother's rings of the 80's. I would love to see any PSers mother's rings? Let's get this idea going!

This is my mother's ring. I didn't like how my kid's birthstones went together. I have 5 so instead my hubby made me this one. The pink bands are for my girls and the white are for my boys.

For your I like the first choice better, I can not really say why, it just speaks to me more. Maybe it is that the second one is to linear for three didffernt colored stones.

Hope that helps

Swoonnnnn...... Love my bling!! I love your ring and love the concept. What a special ring. I think I agree with you about liking the first one better. I don't usually like the mother's rings for that reason.... just don't like the mix of colors, but I am warming to the idea. Thanks for sharing your beautiful piece.

The way I made a mother's/family ring is that when I had my diamond ring done I had 3 rubies placed on the underside of the ring (all 3 kids born the same week so kinda boring lol) so I can turn the ring around and have the rubies on top. Anyway, I am having my diamond reset so I plan to put an emerald in its place which is both my husband and my birthstone so it will truly be a family ring then.

As for your options, I like the first one best too, it allows a bit of asymmetry which goes nicely with the colorful larger stones. The second one you posted looks more like it needs the two side stones to at least match.

I like the first ring better too but I would do it as 3 seperate stackable rings (I think). I think white gold would look just
as good with those colors as yellow gold so its really your choice. I really like that idea. I also like love my blings ring with
the different golds. My kids stones are light blue (for daughter), pink for son and red for other son. The colors just seem
all screwed up to me since they dont go together very well and the blue ends up my DD and the pink my DS. Maybe going
with something like Love my bling with rose gold for my daughter and maybe white and yellow for my sons would work for
me. Sorry for the mini-thread jack...just thinking outloud!

No no.... I like your thinking out loud. It gives me ideas. I'm still brainstorming, will post more ideas soon.

In the first picture, these stones do not look faceted do they? I can't really tell, look like cabochons or half orbs?

I am trying to imagine your description. Do you have a picture? I would love to see it. Sounds beautiful!

Hi ChampagneTaste. :wavey:

I just bought a stackable ring set for a very dear friend for her birthday. The rings feature amethysts set in YG bezels on SS rings. These rings are much too big for my finger, but you can see what a stackable set might look like. She has long fingers, so the scale will be right for her.

If you hesitate about making a commitment to YG or WG, you could always use both, like these.

What are your fingers like? That may influence what you pick.

Would love a Mother's ring but my girls' b-days just did not cooperate. My eldest should have been born in April (DIAMOND!) but alas born in May (My -b-day month-emerald) and my youngest should have been born in July (RUBY!) but was born in August-peridot. An emerald and a peridot combination would really make an ugly ring.

You might also want to post your question over in the colored stones forum - those folks have lots of colored stones expertise!

I have a vague recollection of a wonderful mothers ring posted there - it was a modern style, asymmetrical. Unfortunately I can't recall the poster's name - *something*tiger???

Hi Champagne taste,
I have a mothers ring on its way to me as we speak. Here is a picture

I had it made by Sally from Heart of Water Jewels on Etsy. I think bezel set stacking rings in yellow gold would look fab. Sally has some lovely examples of stacking rings.
Looking forward to seeing what you come up with,
Scarlett

One of my all time favorite colored stone rings is AJ's 3 stone by Julia Kay Taylor. As long as your kids birthstones semi coordinate I think it would look great. Someone else had a very similar ring made but did 2 tone green and white gold with blue-ish stones and a diamond. It was stunning as well.

My mother's ring is a garnet in a halo (January and April babies). I've been thinking of a family ring, which would be a large pearl halo'd with either alternating diamonds and garnets, or a double halo of garnets around the pearl and diamonds around the garnets. That would cover all four of us.

I love the three stone idea; the one SB621 posted is lovely!

How Timely! I just picked up my Mother ring from the jeweler today.
Both of my sons are January birthdays so I looked for a garnet.
Ended up having one custom cut by John at GemRite. It's a 2.21ct asscher cut red Malaya.
I had it set in a classic platinum setting with baguette sidestones. My local jeweler had a construction sale so I got the setting at a very nice discount.
I can't capture the color in pictures, IRL it's a pretty red and was brilliant cut on the underside to increase the sparkle. Very ruby red in overhead lighting.
Here's a couple of pics:

This may be out of left field, but what about a Cartier Trinity?
One band for each child?

Fantastic thread! The fun thing about mothers' rings is that is a need for creativity...
I had never thought about using halo stones, or strings of diamonds in different golds, or yummy chunky stacking cabochon stones for a mother's ring!
LOVE IT!!!

I know this is an old thread and I'm not sure if the OP is still around, but ChampagneTaste, I LOOOOVE the set of stackables you posted in your first pic, and I'm not usually a fan of that look at all!! YUMMY!

Have you looked at Marco Bicego? They do some lovely pieces with the stones you want to use!
