that I took your advice and spoke with my intended about the ering. It turns out that she doesn''t want a traditional solitaire but would prefer a past, present & future three-stone (without a larger center stone) or an anniversary-type eternity ring.

Yes, but although she likes sapphires a lot, she is not sure that she wants to look at them everyday. (several of you PSers pointed that out to me as well).
