Ok. First of all, let me thank all of you who contributed in my earlier post regarding a diamond I bought 4 months ago. That diamond was a good cut, blah, blah, blah; but it had table of 74%. After reading some suggestions, a lot of you thought I could have done better for the price. So, I did receive my full refund and decided on another diamond.

I would be remissed if I did not ask for your advice, and seek your comments. The diamond was about $5200, and here are the specs:

1.04 GVVS1 (7.11x4.98x3.19)
Ideal Cut (or at least that''s what they told me), Excellent polish, Good symmetry
Flourescence - None, Cutlet - None, Thin-Med Girdle
64.1% Depth, 63% Table

When I saw the diamond in person as I compared it to 2 other diamonds, this diamond was firing off as the sunlight shined through the window and onto the diamond. After I saw that, I was pretty much sold. Please let me know what you think, and if my countless days of research and reading on PS has paid off.

Thanks again!

Do you know the crown height of the EC?
What cert does the stone come with (GIA, EGL USA, other)?
At this point, we cannot judge further without pictures. Do you have an Idealscope or ASET that you can use to judge light performance yourself?

Hi GB!

I take it you have seen the diamond in person and like it? Is it GIA graded? If it stands out compared to the others you have viewed, I would suggest obtaining or buying an ASET scope as it would be very helpful to you in order to judge the light return of the stone.

The advice we can give you is limited as you are buying from a store, it is unlikely there will be images so we can help you evaluate the light return, patterning and so forth but what you could do is make the sale final on the diamond checking out in all aspects with an independant appraisal, many appraisers are also skilled in judging cut so this might be your best bet.

Here is the appraiser tool.

Also, have you looked at the diamond away from any bright store lighting? Jewellery store lighting can be deceptive and make most diamonds look good so see if you can look at it in plain daylight if possible.

Thanks for the responses and questions.

I do not know the crown height; however, I do know that it is GIA certified. I will definitely obtain an ASET Scope for my viewing. I do have 30days to obtain a full refund. Also, I did check all the diamonds without the store lighting. I noticed a lot of stores using that technique when selling diamonds, or jewelry period.

And the only lighting use to view the diamonds was the sunlight which happened to shine through the window.

The ASET will definitely help you, also ask if you can look at the diamond away from any bright lighting, in a pinch hold it under a desk to reduce the light. Although the stone will lose some '' steam'' once the lighting is reduced it shouldn''t go completely dead or appear as if it is "shrinking", but if you could view it in plain daylight that would be preferable.
